Also known as the "It should have been 2.9 but we were too lazy to even change the menu background" update.

April 1st is here (in some parts of the world anyway), and so it is time for our traditional big GG2 update. This one has some reorganization of character sprites and animations, I hope this won't cause too much trouble with existing plugins and similar.

Anyway, here is what we have been busy with. Thanks to wareya, Derpduck and Arctic for contributing most of the changes:

Maps
  • Bring back ctf_avanti (Issue Gang-Garrison-2/Gang-Garrison-2#176)
  • Update tdm_mantic

Gameplay and balance
  • Stop Rifleman from penetrating teammates
  • Add a basic TDM invulnerability period
  • In TDM, healing cabinets now only regenerate health
  • Made jumping perfectly framerate independent (exact same arc)
  • Make rockets deal minor direct knockback to who they hit, in addition to splash knockback. This knockback is EXTREMELY small and only serves to SLIGHTLY alter the trajectory given by "weird" rocket hits.

Bug fixes
  • Prevent clients from requesting to change into a nonexisting team
  • Fix animation timing for medic taunt and omnomnom
  • Fix glitch in gold attire for blue scout
  • Fix minor cosmetic bug where intel paper trail sprites sank into the floor
  • Fix passive invisibility of stabs
  • Fixed phantom spinjump dust
  • Fix cosmetic spinjump bug where direction was ignored
  • Accidentally fixed the dropdown platform related "view bump" bug
  • Fix sniper and sentry FULL_UPDATE networking bugs
  • Fix various speed/timing bugs when using 60FPS mode
  • Fix treatment of location of rockets that hit players (sentries, gates, floor etc still have old behavior)

Visuals
  • Added rewards for the "Three is Company" mapping contest
  • Party hats now use the new rigging system, which means they use the "new" character animations now. XMas hats were more complicated because of the bobbles and still use the old system for now.

Internal changes:
  • New "Gear" system which allows attaching overlay sprites to rigging points on characters. Currently only the head is being tracked that way, for hats.
  • Unify per-class-and-team Character objects into a single object per class
  • Renamed Character animation sprites to all follow the pattern "{class}{team}{animation}S"
  • Split Taunt animations into red and blue Sprites to follow the same pattern
  • Renamed Quote/Curly to Querly in the code (as a class name)
  • Pull dead body animation frame into its own sprite

You know the drill, use the auto updater or just download manually from here.

Don't worry about the three is company rewards, 2015 haxxy pickup hasn't been completed yet because I'm forgetful. It's only the new addition though, everything else is completed for that year.

Bug where spinning on staircases sometimes caused spinjumping dust to come out.

Nah that was a different problem, I mean like shooting someone and it hitting their top/bottom but on the far side instead of the near side.

This is the adctf variant, adctf uses the same prefix as ctf just like adcp uses the same prefix as cp.

From earlier tests, I've found that an active SJ script will give a slight boost in speed for stairs oddly. Was always constan but hopefully this fixes it

Wouldn't it be more widely understood if we lable Attack/Defence variants of maps?

Does this mean if you shoot someone jumping above you, it will no longer knock them downwards occasionally?

if the rocket lands high enough above them it can still knock them down

just less, because now the rocket also applies forwards knockback in the direction the rocket was moving, not just away from the rocket's origin
