Server-sent edition
Now with clean, readable code

WHAT IS BBALL
BBall is a CTF-based, fun gamemode that is meant to be played by a small amount of players. Grab the intelligence, and reach the enemy team's basket to score!
How, you ask? Being a rocketman :x23: or a detonator :x25:, you can hit yourself with rockets or stickies to propel yourself high enough in the air to SLAM the ball into the basket!

WHY MAKE IT SERVERSENT
  • Physics! The ball can now bounce, and reacts to airblasts and explosions! And it's totally synced between clients and the server
  • Graphics! A brand new HUD and a real ball-looking intel

MORE FEATURES
  • Pass the ball by pressing the drop intel key!
  • If the ball is colored, only the corresponding team can pick up the ball. When a team scores, only the other team will be able to pick up the ball at first!
  • Play as firebug :x22: ! Use your airblast to defend the ball, or easily propel it towards the other basket!
  • As detonator :x25: or rocketman :x23: , use explosives to move the ball without touching it!
  • Remember: if noone grabs the ball in ten seconds, the ball resets automatically!


HOW TO HOST
See gg2.ini? That file with lots of lines in it. There are two lines you want to look for: ServerPluginList and ServerPluginsRequired.
To the line starting with ServerPluginList, append "bball". If you already use a serversent plugin, separate them with commas, like this:

ServerPluginList=chat_v2,bballTo the line starting with ServerPluginList, replace 0 with 1, like this:
Code: (gg2.ini) [Select]
ServerPluginsRequired=1This plugin is required because it replaces important map elements such as control points and intelligences.

Make sure to host bball maps! A bball map should start with "bball". See HOW TO MAKE A MAP for details on map contents.

You can use this map to host!



HOW TO MAKE A MAP
To make your map bball compatible, here's how it works:
  • Place Capture Zones where the baskets are
  • Place Red and Blue Koth Control Points close to them
  • Place a Red Intelligence Base where you want the ball to spawn
And that's about it! If you want, you can add moveboxes below the baskets to prevent players from capping from below, and killboxes if you want players to die immediately after scoring.

scoring as :x23: :x25: is too easy (easy if you're just jumping to the basket, hard if you're trying to score with explosions only), :x22: is the best/funniest :D

That, or at least they have no healing until there are eight players active. It's obnoxious

2v3 with a player as med seems like you got 3 players who could dominate the other guy and past the rock down the road.
if a medic survives long enough in the court to build uber then the enemy team has done something wrong.
slowly working with YB on this so it's more class friendly than being a" RJ sport wit pyro"

No, I was on the team of 2 against 3 on the soccer map. Deto has some nasty tricks on that map too. Being able to jump up high and det a mine or two on the ball at the middle of the map will near guarantee a point if no goalie

There's an update in the works!

  • Healer can now dunk by taunting: press F while carrying the ball to perform a high jump in the air (see screenshots)
  • Healer dunk sprites courtesy of Rumrusher, credit be given
  • Shooting the ball (intel drop key, default B) gives the ball a fixed speed in the direction of the carrier, regardless of momentum. I'm unsure about that, but after testing it seems to me that it's the best solution
  • The HUD now shows OGs (scoring in your own basket) and MEDUNKs. I still need a good OG overlay, post sprites please
  • The HUD shows hints: "B = PASS", "F = DUNK"
  • Healer's healing is disabled when there are less than 6 players playing
  • Classlimits are automatically set on startup. A normal map will use the ini's classlimits, while a bball map will have those preset classlimits:  :x22: 0.2x ; :x23: 0.3x ; :x25: 0.15x ; :x26: 0.1x (where x is the max player count of the server)

I'll release this update when I have a decent OG overlay sprite.

Pyro isn't really cool to play if you've people just killing you while you try to run to the basket.

I think games should be 'Soldiers/Detos vs Soldiers/Detos' and 'Pyros vs Pyros'.

And for Pyros vs Pyros matches, I'd place healboxes everywhere to avoid players from killing eachother, and I'd make pyros automatically drop the ball after 2/3/idk seconds because otherwise they can simply run to the basket, jump and score (even though they need quite a long time to do so because the other pyros slow them by airblasting)

After more playtesting, it seems that having a large amount of players is a pain and ruins the fun (see Sparky's post).

I'm tempted to remove rocketman :x23: , allow more pyros :x22: , and also remove HP. As in, losing all your HP would not make you die, only you'd be forced to drop the ball. Of course HP would be decreased to like 50.

Thoughts?
