[SSP] warpacks
« on: February 27, 2015, 11:33:02 am »

Your friendly neighborhood healthpacks plugin.

serversent plugin name: warpacks

How to use:
For a map "asdfawefxcb.png", make a "asdfawefxcb.ini" file in your Maps directory. Format the contents like this:

[HealthPackPlugin]
HealthPack0=2429 691
HealthPack1=745 697
HealthPack2=4112 697
HealthPack3=3754 1045
HealthPack4=1105 1045

It's a simple X Y coordinate list. There must be no gaps in the list of healthpacks. That is, if you want to define HealthPack10, you need to define every one of the previous 0 through 9 as well.

A coordinate finder displays in the top left corner of the screen for the host. The coordinates listed are those for the healthpack to be put on the ground you're standing on, not your player's exact position. (The coordinates are rounded and the y coordinate is offset by a certain amount.)

* Healthpacks should be few and far apart. GG2 is a very "non-lethal" (low damage) game, so fights get drawn out, and healthkits respawn. Having too many healthkits gives the player with more mobility or better positioning even more of an advantage and draws out the fight for the opposing party.

* Healthpacks should mostly be in places where people retreat to. GG2 and its maps are not designed around fighting over healthpacks. A map where it makes sense to fight over healthpacks would have to be designed around healthpacks by someone who understands gg2's gameplay and combat.

* Don't put healthpacks on routes which are designed for running the intel. This is a really great way to make defenders HATE healthpacks.

* Highground actually tends to be bad to place healthpacks because it encourages people to pussyfoot and slow down combat.

Are you running the game from a directory where it can't write new files? The plugin needs to be able to copy the .ini file to the program directory in order to run it.

That's the only gamestopper I can think of.

No, that's the right place.
Is the filename before the extension identical? Did the server-sent plugin load correctly? Is it somehow actually a .txt file instead of a .ini file?

You can just rename the file and remove the .txt part. If windows is awful and not letting you do that, because of extensions not being displayed or some other petty reason, enable file extensions in Windows Explorer. I don't know what language you have it set to, but on English, it's like this:

UN-check that (so [ ] ....)

The plugin *is* loading, right? It should at least be causing some kind of error if it fails to do something as basic as copy and open an ini file.

 The txt file is named koth_odvuschwa_rc1.ini but it doesn't have a gear like the gg2 ini has. This is complicated  =/

As long as its extension is .ini and it has "text of a certain format" in it, it's an ini file.

The gear might be a matter of view modes or explorer being buggy.
