by the way you are vastly underestimating the sheer volume of "west of the mississippi" gg2 players.
I'm not underestimating the "west of the mississippi," I picked the time that generally most pugs/tournies occur aka the time when people who actually PLAY the game join.
I don't care if it's "experimental". All you have to do is think shit through before you write the posts and it won't end up like this. Something feel like it might cause a problem? Replace it with something that can't possibly fail. Easy.
5:30 PM would suit people with schedules on the west coast as well as EUs that are willing to stay up late. it's not hard.
What if this all-day tourney takes 4 hours? Then the EU's will have to drop out :V You also forget about most EST kids eating dinner at that time

AND ZASPAI AND HIS AUSTRALIAN FRIENDZ. Your own time didn't even hold up under your own scrutiny.
Again, chill guys, depending on how this goes,
WE MIGHT HAVE MULTIPLE SHOWINGS. IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW THE FIRST ONE WORKS OUT. Most pugs have been slow. PAINFULLY SLOW (taking almost 2 hours to finish). According to that standard, we'd practically have to use the entire 24 hours. By condensing the format, I plan to make it quicker, but by how much
I DON'T KNOW. THERE'S NEVER BEEN A PRECENDENT SET FOR THIS. Once we figure out how the first one works,
EVERYTHING WILL FIT TOGETHER.Sidenote: Just so intel doesn't get on my back, I'm condensing the format for NON-SERIOUS GAMEPLAY. It's rm alright?
1. The challenges, from a gameplay perspective, are trying and tedious. They encourage people to farm or to collaborate rather than to just play the game. Just try knocking someone off of the control point on sawmill or 2dfort so that they fall and you'll see what I mean.
Okay, I'll mention regularly hosted maps with elevated points: koth_odvuschwa/koth_corinth/koth_trestle/koth_gartiex/koth_rough(the one I personally did this challenge on)/koth_bestmapever/koth_viaduct/koth_double/koth_thundermountain/koth_nucleus/koth_drill/cp_dirtbowl(all 3 stages)/cp_oasis/cp_gullywash/cp_tesla/cp_mountainjazz/cp_eureka/cp_inca/cp_badlands/cp_floaton/dkoth_atalia/LOTS MORE THAT AREN'T REGULARLY HOSTED
You really don't have to farm to do these lol. If you argue you haven't seen these maps, maybe it's because you don't play until the haxxies arrive.
Not to mention they are not even trying. Most people would agree that the 1st and 3rd challenges were relatively EZ. Plz stop coming back from a 75% year hiatus and declaring that the game's CHALLENGES are tedious when the 1st and 3rd can practically be completed in 10 mins flat. Engies spawn alot on ad/cp, koth maps such as jarvest or odvuschwa/and obviously ctf.
2. You have set up a tournament with a VERY desireable prize at a time at which a select few members of the community can participate using a mod which is outdated and long past its point of popularity.
You mean at time when most pugs/tourney matches occur and the EU community can join as well. This is not a select few. I'm just doing what's common. DOESN'T MEAN I'M RULING YOU GUYS OUT OR THINK YOU'RE NOT PEOPLE, JUST PICKING THE BEST TIME TO TEST THIS.
3. You're playing dumb. You've been in the IRC. You've seen the complaints. I shouldn't have to explain this to you.
Yea, I've seen you complain with somebody who thinks that quote is viable in comp and somebody else who thinks that "deto is a difficult class." Again, most people will vouch for the ease of challenges 1 and 3.
You forgot the entire purpose of the yearly competitions: To get people to participate in the community. If you're going to dredge up old mods and force people to play them for the competition, then you're disenfranchising new members who may want to begin their foothold in the community through the competition. I don't care if you think that it's optional. It's not optional because you offer a desirable prize. You want people to participate and you're going about it in the completely wrong way.
Haxxies are the other way. Think they are giving out medals to Haxxy winners as well (not sure about this). To address your other point, there's a
vanilla summer tourney going on at the same time that new members can join (or rather could, the deadlines over lol). There's also a whopping 35 people who signed up (not 14!!) But lemme guess: you don't play that either.
As for being outdated, so what? It's still a generally fun mod. Should you say that the haxxies force you to art to get a desirable prize and that therefore they're horrible?
Remember, we might have multiple showings.
I am literally only here for the haxxies. I come back every year for them and fade away once they are over. I enjoy participating, but when you make it such a task, I feel less like coming back next year. I can only imagine what others are thinking, since I'm actually fairly devoted to this game.
There's two sides to this competition: Haxxies for people with artistic/coding talent, and the Raybanns for people who regularly play but don't have any artistic/coding talent. You obviously don't fit into the category of the Raybanns.
