tl:dr version: The challenge is "tedious",  We shouldn't use RM as a way to attract new players because it's old and "past the point of popularity" and it's not really optional because the reward is desirable.

I only back here each year for haxxies.

erm... this is Raybann. Not haxxy. This is an opportunity for the less talented people to earn something by playing the game, sure there are also regular members participating too but the opportunity is for everyone, that's why the reward has to be big. You can argue all you want about whether the challenge is optional or not, but you know logically it is. if you don't wanna participate in this, Haxxy is being held atm.

"I am literally only here for the haxxies" I don't know whether you're talking about the community or everything about the game but I find it hard to believe that you are "actually fairly devoted to this game" consider your existence in gg2 only occurs once a year.

by the way you are vastly underestimating the sheer volume of "west of the mississippi" gg2 players.
I'm not underestimating the "west of the mississippi," I picked the time that generally most pugs/tournies occur aka the time when people who actually PLAY the game join.

I don't care if it's "experimental". All you have to do is think shit through before you write the posts and it won't end up like this. Something feel like it might cause a problem? Replace it with something that can't possibly fail. Easy.
5:30 PM would suit people with schedules on the west coast as well as EUs that are willing to stay up late. it's not hard.
What if this all-day tourney takes 4 hours? Then the EU's will have to drop out :V You also forget about most EST kids eating dinner at that time D: AND ZASPAI AND HIS AUSTRALIAN FRIENDZ. Your own time didn't even hold up under your own scrutiny.

Again, chill guys, depending on how this goes, WE MIGHT HAVE MULTIPLE SHOWINGS. IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW THE FIRST ONE WORKS OUT. Most pugs have been slow. PAINFULLY SLOW (taking almost 2 hours to finish). According to that standard, we'd practically have to use the entire 24 hours. By condensing the format, I plan to make it quicker, but by how much I DON'T KNOW. THERE'S NEVER BEEN A PRECENDENT SET FOR THIS. Once we figure out how the first one works, EVERYTHING WILL FIT TOGETHER.

Sidenote: Just so intel doesn't get on my back, I'm condensing the format for NON-SERIOUS GAMEPLAY. It's rm alright?

1. The challenges, from a gameplay perspective, are trying and tedious. They encourage people to farm or to collaborate rather than to just play the game. Just try knocking someone off of the control point on sawmill or 2dfort so that they fall and you'll see what I mean.
Okay, I'll mention regularly hosted maps with elevated points: koth_odvuschwa/koth_corinth/koth_trestle/koth_gartiex/koth_rough(the one I personally did this challenge on)/koth_bestmapever/koth_viaduct/koth_double/koth_thundermountain/koth_nucleus/koth_drill/cp_dirtbowl(all 3 stages)/cp_oasis/cp_gullywash/cp_tesla/cp_mountainjazz/cp_eureka/cp_inca/cp_badlands/cp_floaton/dkoth_atalia/LOTS MORE THAT AREN'T REGULARLY HOSTED

You really don't have to farm to do these lol. If you argue you haven't seen these maps, maybe it's because you don't play until the haxxies arrive.

Not to mention they are not even trying. Most people would agree that the 1st and 3rd challenges were relatively EZ. Plz stop coming back from a 75% year hiatus and declaring that the game's CHALLENGES are tedious when the 1st and 3rd can practically be completed in 10 mins flat. Engies spawn alot on ad/cp, koth maps such as jarvest or odvuschwa/and obviously ctf.

2. You have set up a tournament with a VERY desireable prize at a time at which a select few members of the community can participate using a mod which is outdated and long past its point of popularity.
You mean at time when most pugs/tourney matches occur and the EU community can join as well. This is not a select few. I'm just doing what's common. DOESN'T MEAN I'M RULING YOU GUYS OUT OR THINK YOU'RE NOT PEOPLE, JUST PICKING THE BEST TIME TO TEST THIS.

3. You're playing dumb. You've been in the IRC. You've seen the complaints. I shouldn't have to explain this to you.
Yea, I've seen you complain with somebody who thinks that quote is viable in comp and somebody else who thinks that "deto is a difficult class." Again, most people will vouch for the ease of challenges 1 and 3.

You forgot the entire purpose of the yearly competitions: To get people to participate in the community. If you're going to dredge up old mods and force people to play them for the competition, then you're disenfranchising new members who may want to begin their foothold in the community through the competition. I don't care if you think that it's optional. It's not optional because you offer a desirable prize. You want people to participate and you're going about it in the completely wrong way.
Haxxies are the other way. Think they are giving out medals to Haxxy winners as well (not sure about this). To address your other point, there's a vanilla summer tourney going on at the same time that new members can join (or rather could, the deadlines over lol). There's also a whopping 35 people who signed up (not 14!!) But lemme guess: you don't play that either.

As for being outdated, so what? It's still a generally fun mod. Should you say that the haxxies force you to art to get a desirable prize and that therefore they're horrible?

Remember, we might have multiple showings.

I am literally only here for the haxxies. I come back every year for them and fade away once they are over. I enjoy participating, but when you make it such a task, I feel less like coming back next year. I can only imagine what others are thinking, since I'm actually fairly devoted to this game.
There's two sides to this competition: Haxxies for people with artistic/coding talent, and the Raybanns for people who regularly play but don't have any artistic/coding talent. You obviously don't fit into the category of the Raybanns.

  THE SECOND HURRAH!

Win the tourney to get a medal!!!!

DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND, WE ARE RUNNING A SECOND TOURNEY AT 6PM.
#RAYBANN #RAYBANN

It turns out that our little party last time left our West Coasters feeling left out. Don't worry, we haven't forgotten you and you are most certainly our people. We're running another tournament at 6PM so that you guys get a chance to come in. Everyone else, if you have time, come and play! I promise that this one will go more smoothly.

Our previous tourney went by with a couple hitches along the way, including having an odd number of players. Thanks for subbing in as May's teammate, B.illy. Team Billy Mays went on to win the tournament, but not without dominating on their home turf, arena_BillyMays not once, but twice! Congratulations May, a medal for you! Nothing for you B.illy, you're running the show.

COME JOIN US FOR THE SECOND TOURNEY AND TRY TO DETHRONE TEAM BILLY MAYS (assuming the randomized teams agree)

- Download the latest version of randomizer HERE You need randomizer mod to participate.

(click to show/hide)

- As always, you don't have to win to get the extra points, you just have to participate. Remember, these tourneys are extra; they don't affect the normal 100% progression.
- If you got points for the first tourney, you will not gain points for participating in the second one, but you will get another shot at the medal!

Tip 1: Get used to different loadouts that might give you a different advantage!!

So a time shift to the weekend, perhaps Saturday 2-3pm EST (or even a bit later, since weekend) would be more acceptable? (Lack of sleep discipline is not a convincing argument, as an aside.)
Pointing out "sleep discipline" is the worst thing you could've done. I go to bed a full hour and a half before I actually fall asleep every night. I typically have a 24.5 hour sleep cycle and alarms and sunlight don't do a damn thing to it. The only things that let me wake up early is critical obligations like school and work, because of the adrenaline from fear of missing them, and even then I get ridiculously sleep deprived. Not only that, it was not an argument; it was a footnote.

EDIT 2: Also assuming I remember correctly, PUGs are usually at 2-3pm EST anyways?
No. They typically start around 3-3:30 EST, where "start" means "someone makes a post asking people to get in IRC"; then they actually start PLAYING half an hour to an hour later, typically 3:30 to 4:00. That's actually on-schedule for the several east-coast people we have in college and summer school.

"won't end up like this" - Firstly the tourney hasn't even been hosted yet, please save your presumptuous remarks - whether they eventuate to be true or not - until afterwards.
I have seen several other people than myself severely upset about the way this is being handled. In fact, someone sent me a PM essay complaining about the raybanns today. When so many people are clearly upset but not critical of it, I'm perfectly willing to be annoying and seem presumptuous to make it obvious that something is wrong.
That said, there was a big fuss about challenge #2, and then #3 was bad again.

Secondly, unlike the perfect workings of your mind, dear Wareya, we are working as a team unit on something completely new (Raybanns in general, not tourneys), and as you most certainly know from your wealth of experience there's going to be glitches along the way.
I'm willing to accept "we're new to this" as a reason for making mistakes. That said, if you're hosting something like this, people are going to take it far more seriously than you think; you absolutely should be soliciting advice from people who even claim to understand this kind of event very well, because when it comes to advice of that kind, everything goes. You're obviously not trying as hard as you can to make a good event, and somewhere along the line, flawed and unfinished "fun" ideas are getting put in front of a whole tier of consideration.

Do people expect something perfect on first go? We can make concessions as things progress through the weeks, but if YOUR sole purpose is to pick at every imperfection that deviates from your ideal vision of whatever it is you'd like to call the Raybanns, please, I invite you to prepare an activity of this scale on your own.
You should already know that kind of argument is a form of false dilemma. This isn't about what I would do vs what you guys would do, and my supposed inability to host a "large" (lol) event of this scale, without causing the problems I'm complaining about in the first place, has nothing to do with the legitimacy of my complaints. If your response to extended criticism, even badly toned, is along those lines, you're being terribly misguided.

WHY on EARTH would you place a tourney with a reward at such a time that people on the west coast with real life obligations can't sign up?

because the west coast doesnt matter and west coasters aren't people
but more seriously, you can't please everyone (we have east coasters and europeans and canadians and west coasters and an australian or two and a whole bunch of other people) and I think this time is a good compromise between east coasters and europeans

name these people or have them come post here otherwise i dont believe you nor do i take this post seriously. the big fuss about number 2 is you and bass bitching, and now again its you and bass bitching, 2 people vs everyone else who have willing worked with the challenge and the organizers.

lmao @ the pm essay (to tou and not the organizers) if so many (doubt it) people are too scared to come post then they shouldnt feel entitled to be mad that shit isnt going there way. pathetic
