Custom animations are possible without tiles
I guess that could be done with the current state of the editor as well
It would be easier with tiles though

I stand by you and am against the idea of tiles, though I stand by myself (mindfuck) and say it would be easier.
Probably not much easier though, and it would be a pain in the ass to add the whole system.

Please define "arbitrary geometries and distances" for someone that doesn't want to take a word salad and figure out what all the ingredients to it are.

10/11(?) pixel jump height
8 minimum corridor height
and... well those are the big ones I'd guess.

point is to have tiles in gg2 without losing anything you still need to have the ability to arbitrarily place them so you'd have to make it so people can offset tiles and draw in between the lines
basically we'd need a custom editor.
