Server Sent Plugin - Mechas VS Mercs
« on: December 22, 2013, 03:31:40 pm »

Source code for the project. Do as you will.

It's a mess. But it's my mess.
Started work on this last night, and while this screenshot doesn't show it very well, some of the upgrades do actually work. Namely, fire rate, reload speed, clip size.

UI for the panel is still being worked on and is actually not usable at the moment.

'nother screenshot to show that yes, itemserver will try to play nice with this, so all your hats are safe.

The bots won't be tempest, and will more likely just be like simple moving sentries told to jump at certain points
Here's some gifs of the 9 main classes

As you can see, it's almost like infinite ammo's back in town. And I also changed the way the mine gun works so that it can take advantage of the higher clip size, and to behave more like it's tf2 counterpart.

Perhaps instead of text for upgrades, use some sort of icon?

Is it possible to use a plugin to modify the ammo clip for Solly and Pyro's flares otherwise they'll clip off the HUD/change team color :p

Looking good, will keep watching this

Let me just jump on the bandwagon and drop some robo sprites I just made.

Might make more, but I need some motivation (meaning I need to see progress on this plugin). I'd really love to see this finished. Maybe even we could persuade devs to add this as one of the default game modes.

It'll have both, hopefully.

Already planned to fix that sort of thing.

Well Iunno if it'll be actually just straight tf2 mvm. might be more entertaining if it wasn't.

So a Mobile Generator the Red/Blu teams are force to attack that's guarded by

and they all drop those Xp Chips from CaveStory to spend on upgrades?

No, it'll still be the mvm game mode, just more varied enemy types beyond just firghting robo classes. I'm talking with sani, doing brainstorms

Looking good so far, and is a server sent plugin? Sheeeeeeeeeeet!

Let me just jump on the bandwagon and drop some robo sprites I just made.

Those look great.

Would we restrict bots to the same weapons as the gang or might they have alternate loadouts (e.g. bat scout, QF medic)

Also any plans for giants?

-Altered the way upgrades are handled, actually allowing them to be saved to the player per class, like TF2 does, instead of being held by the weapon.
-Made the UI a little navigable
-Made all upgrades affect Scattergun, will need to redo the other weapons.
-Made dummy which can be spawned and shot for testing, whee.

I do have to ask though, since this would probably affect the popularity of the concept:

Mod or Plugin?

Mod Pros:
-Easier for me to work on, meaning product can be played sooner.
-I control the update schedule. When I think an update's done, it'll be uploaded for use.
-You could likely join a vanilla server with no hassles.
-I have more control over how the gamemode interacts with GG2, such as access to scripting and ease of editing objects.
-(Relatively) More lightweight. I don't have to waste space rewriting everything.
-Has a higher potential for being implemented to vanilla
Mod Cons:
-You likely couldn't host a server and expect vanilla clients to be able to join. Even if it did work outside of MVM, the instant an MVM map loaded, wave goodbye to vanilla clients.
-I don't know how to use GitHub so a vanilla update could take a while to respond to.
-Mods are not downloaded for long before people get bored and head back to vanilla (Sani has offered to advertise in the newsfeed.)

Plugin Pros:
-You can join with a vanilla client, no matter what, after a download of the plugin
-People seem to enjoy server sent plugins, they have a longer 'shelf life' so to speak.
-Downloads only happen when the plugin is updated, assuming GG2 doesn't change any code I use.
Plugin Cons:
-Development is a lot harder. No decent editor and no access to scripts means I have to rewrite and rework a lot of things. All of which constitutes a larger download on join. I also don't know how to network with the plugins yet.
-In order to push an update I have to talk with AJF who lives on the other side of the world, thus updates could take a while after I've finished them.

Being a Mod will kill it. Ask GG2+.
