Counter-Attack: Worldwide Onslaught
« on: August 09, 2013, 09:35:00 pm »

Yup, it's going to be a CS:GO demake. Because GG2's not going anywhere and I think Faucet needs a new demake.

Now, CS2D already exists, but it's top-down. I want a side-scrolling, GG2-esque CS:GO demake.

So far I've decided it will be HTML5/JS running in the browser, it'll use tiled maps, it will be 2D, it will be side-scrolling. That's about it.

If anyone would like to help sprite or make maps or something, or plays CS:GO more than I do and could criticise how terrible my gameplay decisions are, I'd love your help.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. execute_strings on fire off the shoulder of Overmars. I watched object-beams glitter in the dark near the room_goto_fix. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears...in...rain. Time to die.

I would suppose it says he needs a spriter and he needs a mapper? You should use gg2 sprites as placeholders until you get those made.

I wonder what it says about this game's prospects when you openly admit a game you develop isn't going anywhere.
Well, the problem is the technology. More specifically, GMGG2 isn't going anywhere, and porting to angl is not really a sensible idea.

Wouldn't it be better if you like... finished angl and made it with that?
Well, angl is supposed to only be for GG2. To be honest, angl and GM are horrible, so I'd rather not.

That's a good idea, I'll do that.

Yeah, vertical-ity in CS is very rarely a thing.

Top-down probably is better, but I don't want to make a CS:2D clone :-\

The thing is that CS:2D is very bad and also mediocre. It's not hard to not make a clone of bad and mediocre.

Could you elaborate on what makes it "bad and mediocre"?

That motherfucking community, the dev comes off as a gigantic dick, 99% of the maps are, erm... "fun" maps, 99% of the servers run said "fun" maps, and the other 1% runs de_dust2d.

So, yeah, it's like GG2, but about 10 times as horrible.

Welp :-\

I just tried briefly "playing" on a map. The visuals are sucky (all dat emboss but also the fact that empty regions of the map are transparent and you instead see an unmoving tiled background), there's no acceleration/deceleration in movement (instant start/stop, ugh). But hey, at least the menu screen has fun particle effects!

So... you can set up infinite turrets round a spawn to kill the opposite team the moment they spawn.

Holy shit. :z4:

EDIT: Oh, and "espanol" (espaņol you idiots) and "l33t" are "Languages" :<

Who the fuck thought that was a good idea.

Also, you weren't kidding about the servers. There were only 2 servers which: 1) Weren't full, 2) had no scripts, 3) used standard game mode, 4) weren't password-protected and 5) had >2 players
