Hey all, (again), this time I have a menu background cooked up for you all to gander at. I've still got the shading/shadows to do, and I want to do something else with the Healer's arm (something about it seems off but I don't know how to fix it yet).

I'm no pixel artist by any means, but I only started this a few hours ago and I'm pretty happy with it so far.


Any critiques are more than welcome.

Unrelated:
I'm still working on my Miss Pauling pixel art entry, I haven't scrapped it, I'm still trying to make it better than the one I've got uploaded so far.

Heavy looks fine, but medic...
His whole body is too small compared to the head. Or too thin at least. Either way, he looks more like Egon than he ever did.

And I assume you're really trying to stay with gg2 character designs, but if that's the case, even our healer has belts on both shoulders and possibly, but not necessarily, a backpack, and his glasses have no frames.

Okay, I'll head back into Paint.Net and add another strap and see what I can do about the thinness. Honestly I've been basing the strap on the in-game sprite (class select and the usable one) and they both only had the one strap.

EDIT:
Just added a 2nd strap, and a backpack. Removed the frames. Changed the Healer's hair a bit.

It's the fact that his face looks really thin, even triangle-shaped, especially with that big quiff you gave him. I assume he's supposed to look at the intel, and, like heavy, is meant to be seen a little from above, but the way he is, it seems like he's seen from the side and looking at heavy.
Our healer's head is nearly square, so basically cut his hair down 5 or 6 pixels, make chin more even and move the glass way to the other side (so we can only see half of it). And change the hair accordingly, because that'll pretty much turn his head around.

As for his body, make his left shoulder softer, more round, and to even it out, add a few pixels to the right one.

Oh.
I thought I've always drawn him with 2. But hey, the class select anims were based on some older images, so I didn't want to change them too much, I guess.

What about the chin?

And I had been planning on adding a RED-poster or something onto the way anyway... I'll see what I can do about the floor.

Might take a bit though, I've been sick for about 3 days now.  I'll update this asap. Any critiques for the Meatwall Overweight/Heavy?

What about the chin?
Our medic's face is more round/square - chin is the same width as the rest of the face.
As I said, yours looks too triangular.

You should make it look less like a ... square, maybe just add/remove some pixels, but now it looks like he ate a donut, which wasn't a donut but a box. (im tired)

Also make the glasses connect to his place-where-ears-would-be, maybe move the part above his not-nose a bit higher too.

I don't think it's the squareness that makes it look weird, it's the proportion of face to hair and that the left side gets narrower towards the bottom.

I won't. Since he's now actually looking at the intel, I'll have to change his hair even further so it doesn't look like he has a giant ear on the side of his face where hair would grow.

On the plus side I feel much better today than I did yesterday; should be posting a revision later tonight.

EDIT:
Okay, new version.

Changed the Healer's head a bit, changed his hair to look a bit more natural, lowered the Overweight's head height by a pixel, recolored the wall, added a RED logo, and I'm, in a version I haven't uploaded, "turned on" the light above the table to experiment with the lighting.

hopefully things go well IRL

i suggest toning up the blue of the medic's medigun backpack so its less baby-blue and more deeper. Not by much, more like a white-saturated solid blue rather than a light blue.

As the deadline has been extended by a week and I'm not quite foreclosed on just yet, I feel like now is a good time to bump this up another time (darn you page 2) to get some fresh eyes and opinions on how to make this bad boy of a background be on equal footing with the veterans' entries.

Give them some shading (basically make the area near the outlines towards the spotlight brighter) and make it 100x75
