My main concer is that all the mods like INS and RM will be thrown out and probably never be brought back again.

Nothing prevents them from continuing with GMK and adding features themselves. They don't need to be compatible with the mainstream gg2, and they can still be listed in the lobby.

PyGG2 will make modding a whole lot harder for beginners
I still don't really see why. It's not like Python is immensely harder than GML, it's a lot cleaner and a lot easier to work with in most cases (just compare GML lists with Python lists).
The only things that are really more complex atm in PyGG2 than in GML-GG2 are the networking because of UDP (but it's still cleaner), and the engine because of the interpolation.

Also, remember that GMK is neither free nor as well documented as Python. Both count lots towards new modders.

It'll force all the current modders to learn Python. Yes. But I don't think it'll be that bad towards new ones.
Ok. Change to PyGG2  :wuv:

Python is a great language to learn, much more useful (for everything ::) ) than GML, which is to say switching over to Python would not make it harder on complete beginners because they don't know any languages at all, and instead would end up with the benefit of knowing a full fledged language; switching to python may only be a nuisance to current modders/developers who don't want to be arsed to learn a new language.

Erf, the whiny child inside me just wants to scream out and say "No don't switch to python!"  But that's just because I'm reluctant to embrace change, and I know the ins and outs of GMK pretty well.  I have to agree, though, on rewriting the game from square one, because there are lots of messes that need to be cleaned up.  Picking up Python probably wouldn't be too hard for me (so I should be able to continue with mod updates/upkeep), and it's about time I learned it anyways.  A reluctant vote towards Python.

I need a hand up to start on python, so I'd love it if you gals were to switch and help a brother with learning the lingo.

I wrote a very basic rundown on the main syntactical differences in the PyGG2 thread.
Here is the official Python tutorial, a great resource. Read most of it, and you'll be fine.

I like this idea so long as we also keep a GMK version of the game for those who are to lazy/buzy to learn a new language.

Not going to happen. Especially as the GMK version won't be compatible with the Python one, they use completely different mechanics and protocols.

Alright sorry. I probably don't want to change since I grew up with Game Maker but hey, if Python works better then I guess it's an opportunity for me to learn a new language.

I fully support abandoning gg2.gmk and going ahead with gg2.py :)
