Super Mario Galaxy is by far one of the worst games I've ever played. The platforming is baby mode and the spin thing is way too exploitable. I dunno why Nintendo thinks that doing 7+ objectives in 1 world is fun, but it's not. The levels get old as shit really fast. Especially when they get lazy and literally recycle a goddamn level, only mirroring it and changing the textures. Also, it is devoid of any replayability, for some reason Nintendo thought that having you play through the exact same game again as Luigi would qualify as replay value.
I love you.

Though I did enjoy Super Mario 64.
That's because it's much more open-ended. You get to choose dynamically if you want to pursue one objective and the other, aside from the few ones that require you to modify the level by selecting them.

While I'm gonna get a lot of flak for this, I think that Ico is one of the most overrated games I ever played. It was one long escort mission that never got interesting, and the atmosphere never dragged me in.

^^^ what he said. Plus, the objectives varied a lot more than they did in Galaxy. The owl, the snowball head trying to find his body, etc

I had a girlfriend who tried bugging me into playing Ico many times. I kept saying no.
Glad I did.

Plus purple coins are as tedious and not fun as fuck.
I preferred the 100 coin runs, exploration is what 3D mario games do best.

Purple coins on the goddamn pixel luigi was the fucking most annoying fucking mission in the whole fucking game, or possibly a close fucking second to fucking clone luigi fuckery.

Don't judge me.

replays suck, use demos
demos are only good for setting traps, use soldier if you want to be aggressive and still have explosions

Playstation Home is the most fun I've ever had with a few short runs with that console at a friend's place.

Why?

You can pretend to fuck people, and they react so naively it beats the purpose of being an ironic generic troll.

I thought Black Ops on DS was pretty good too, but only after I fixed up the controls...

How about no

Aside from Baby Mario's track, it didn't have much interesting stuff. The double pilot thing was just something to add different stats to the cars, but it didn't make much difference. The double items thing was okay for battles, but it was totally broken in the actual races.

Besides, the main reason why I dislike Mario Kart is the fact that it deliberately gives you the ability to fuck up everyone's game by being last. I don't think any game that gives the upper hand to the people who are doing awfully can be considered balanced or even fun.
I mean, look at the blue shell: you fuck up the first place guy, but what's the purpose? It's not like the 8th one will have time to catch up with the first one, he's just messing up the game of someone who was doing ok. Then there's the bullet bill that automatically transports you to 4th/5th place. There's no real strategy involved, even the red shells are auto-aimed at the nearest opponent.

Now, CTR did it superbly. First of all, even if you were last, the items you could get lent you a hand to fuck up everyone else's game for the exact same amount of time, as opposed to Mario Kart's "Let's make it so lightning affects more the people who are playing better".

Secondly, even if you got very good items, you had to power up yourself before using them. This implies that you had to play right and hit the crates with a moderate amount of precision/skill, it didn't matter which position you were in the ranks.

Thirdly, even the commonest items required a bit more of strategy as well as dexterity. The green shell like bombs didn't bounce around. They went in a straight line and dealt a fuckload of damage. However, because of that each one of your shots had to be calibrated, you couldn't just throw it and hope for the best. Similarly, the rockets didn't steer much, unlike the red shells, so unless you had a clear view of your target there was a huge probability of them missing him. And they didn't lock onto banana peels like some kind of fruit seeking bomb. The TNTs, which were the equivalent of the bananas (the potion thingies were sort of like bob ombs but that's another story), could be easily hit, true, but you had the chance to shrug them off and even use them against other players. It's much more balanced, because an item is NEVER supposed to fuck up someone two miles away from you.

Though I liked the coins system in Super Circuit. It's mostly because it had similarities with CTR. I know they were deployed in the SNES game but SC was much more "advanced".
