I'd rather hurt the old discussion that the old devs don't care about reading anymore than let it choke out the new stuff.

the op of the chat thread has an ok organization of the arguments presented. it's kind of messy, but it does help get everyone on the same level if they don't feel like reading the whole thread (like me).

The way I see it, the purpose of this subforum is to allow open discussion on potential game features, so that devs can look at both sides and make a decision.  If you're refusing to allow discussion that isn't new to devs, and which your average forumgoer has no way of knowing isn't new to devs (people don't read every thread), then it isn't open discussion, since people are being told they can't make certain arguments.  Nobody wants to spend the time to making a long and well-argued post only to be told that it's been seen before and you're not going to let people discuss it.

If you wanted to get the old stuff out of the way, I think a better way to handle it would have been to summarize the arguments that have been made in the past, and the dev team's response to them.  Explicitly state that you're not going to allow those same arguments to be brought up again.  Then people would know what, exactly, they're not supposed to be discussing.  Just labeling the line of conversation as "off-topic" is misleading and makes it look like you're not bothering to read what people are saying (since it clearly is on topic; it's just a facet of the topic you consider already settled).

I'm fine with devs making decisions on things and considering the matter settled so long as no new points are being raised.  However, these decisions need to be stated clearly, so that people know if a point they're making is new or not.

So we should sticky a "Topics that don't need to be discussed and why" thread to FR?

Please, split the last 15 or so posts in the water topic, they derail the discussion and aren't even funny doing so.

I share his opinion. It is very offtopic, and I hope it's not serious.

I couldn't find a place to post this and didn't want to start a new topic over it, but what are the qualifications for "accepted requests"?

There are no "qualifications". It's entirely up to developer judgment.

What qualifies as developer judgement? If I wrote the code, for example, and submitted it for a push, would that be developer judgement, and what would decide whether it would be accepted?

Developer judgement is, if the people who are in charge of the new release decide to put it in.

If you need to ask who that is, then you are not one of them.

How is it not clear that to be an accepted request your request has to be accepted by the devs for integration into the game? Its in the fucking title of the board lol.

There has to be general consent for a feature to go in, and there has to be someone motivated to actually go and code, test and push it.
If you just do it, you'll meet the second criterion automatically, so unless people have vehement objections (in which case it'll be discussed first and put on hold; see chat) Medo will simply pull it and include it in the next release.

In general, posting here is the way to check whether a request is accepted or not. Making requests thought out and even supplying test builds and proof of concept and all improves the chances, but there isn't an algorithm with 100% success rate.

If the request is not obviously flawed, then if it's closed, it will be with an explanation and probably some pages of discussion over it.
