My friend made close to $1000 dollars selling Magic cards over Winter Break. That's all he does during the school year as well.

Well, if you can avoid wasting too much money on it, it's pretty nice. Especially these cards with quotations, they're so funny at times.

If there's a card shop that holds tournaments near you, see if they hold MTG drafts.  Often you can get a bunch of commons/uncommons for free because the people who regularly participate in drafts have no desire to keep many of them once the draft is over, since regular participation in drafts tends to cause you to amass many copies of commons/uncommons.

Magic the Gathering is like if the stock market, spreadsheets, and World of Warcraft ran into eachother head-on.
Needless to say no good can come of it.

Ham, I think youre going to enjoy Magic The Gathering. I used to be into it for a couple of years and theres definitely something magic about going to the comic store, meeting other players, collecting different series etc. Its really a wonderful universe of its own - so long as you dont get too serious about it. And thats the downside of it - people who take it too seriously. Plus the money. The last two factors are the reason I stopped. But the game itself and the cards are still great.

I played this once... as a personal opinion, I wasn't fond of it, it was interesting, the little sayings on the bottom of the cards were kinda funny, though. But I dunno, it felt stiff. Not very flexible.

well I thought I should bump this up again. Since I last posted, I've collected 117 cards. I just bought my first starter deck today; Presence of Mind. I was going to wait and get one of the new worldwake decks but I said screw it and  :smiley16: while mom was on the way home from wal-mart

I haven't played in quite a while, but if people start using this as a general M:TG thread (or if you just want to keep pseudo-blogging about your M:TG experiences) I could probably answer any rules questions that come up.  I'm pretty good with those.

By the way, if you're interested in becoming a good player and don't mind a fairly long read, this is a fantastic article that covers a lot of essential deckbuilding and gameplay strategy.
