Rules and Guidelines - Updated 06/15/14
« on: November 06, 2009, 03:11:18 pm »

Welcome to the Art/Creative sub-forum!
Here you can discuss, share and admire everything that falls under creativity.

Your artistic Moderators:
SkeleDude        A/D
Consult these two with any questions you have about the rules or the sub-forum in general.

//General//
The rules and guidelines that effect the sub-forum as a whole
  • Our forum is hosted in Germany, refrain from posting any works directly related to nazism or the third reich as it is illegal.
  • Literature, music, paintings, and any other form you can think of belongs here!
  • Do not post hardcore pornagraphy or excessive gore, there are children here who don't need  to go through therapy because you think you're funny.
  • Anything else not safe for work keep it in spoilers.

//Personal Art Threads//
Personal threads for personal art.
  • You may create one for yourself at anytime, though we would prefer it if you kept to the Public art thread if you don't plan on posting art more than sparingly.
  • Do not create multiple threads for your art, keep it all under one roof.
  • You are free to promote any outside hosting site you use share your art elsewhere.
  • Do not post art that is not your own to claim it is.
  • If you would like to take requests, please state so in your original post.
  • If you'd like to make a request in another's art thread, check their original post, then ask.
  • Do not spam requests, it's pretty rude and you'll probably be ignored after.

//Public Gallery of Thread// [Link]
A public thread for anyone to post their art in.
  • You are encouraged to post any of your creations here, until you feel the need to start a personal thread.
  • Do not post another person's art to claim it as your own.
  • Respect each other, don't be a bunch of meanies because of their inexperience.

//Art Appreciation Thread// [Link]
A public thread for anyone to share art they didn't create personally.
  • Unless you can muster a discussion for singular artists or styles, post any art you favor here.
    • Source any material you post. Give the title and artist's name; a direct link is preferable.

//GG2 Custom Sprite Showcase// [Link]
Like the public gallery thread, but strictly for GG2 compatible sprites
  • Do not post sprites for other games, this is strictly for gg2 sprites. However they can be of characters or designs based on other games. ex. an Ash Ketchum sprite that would replace the runner class
[/list]

Sure why not. As long as the purpose is explicitly stated and it is a personal creation. If you want to make a thread to discuss, analyze or appreciate literature, make sure that is stated.

Where do you ask for requests then???
Either ask for requests within someone else's art thread, or make sure you have enough content to warrant starting a new thread. Threads that are simply, "hey this is good idea. now someone go draw it", will probably get locked.

Here's a quick guideline for any member thinking about making a request thread.
A good thread would have:
  • specific enough details so the artist doesn't have to pull shit out of their ass to meet arbitrary interpretations; however, if you do want the artist to have liberal interpretations, please point that out, so there is no excuse for complaints.
  • reference images for anything you have in mind. these could be images of certain styles, color schemes, perspectives, anatomy, poses and whatnot.
  • technical specifications. tell the artist what canvas size you want it to be, what format to use, preferred program, palette limitations, size limitations. And for god sakes, if you're asking for a sprite, point out the pixel resolution (1x1, 2x2 double size, 2x1, etc), so there's no excuse about "bitmixing".
  • be constructive and polite. if you dislike the what the artist has done with your request, please be mindful that they took the time to even consider your request. Respectfully point out what the problems are. Don't just say, "shit sux", or else you risk losing your credibility as a member of this art subforum.

Ideally, if you are working on a project, you'll want to just PM a member if you're interested in their art style.

Edit: Oh, and one more thing. The artist of the thread has the right reserved to veto any requests. So if your art thread is getting spammed with stupid shit, just send me a PM, and I'll delete it asap.
