Every time I try to enter a server that currently has a custom map at my dad's house--the only place I can play gg2 anymore--I get a message saying
"Incompatible Server Protocol Version", and it leads me back to the starting menu.

It always worked fine on any other computer I've played GG2 on.

If I don't get that message, I get
"The server sent unexpected data"
and the program shuts down.


What should I do?

Happens to me all the time. Solution: Don't go into that server. Find another one

Personally, I think this "redownload" suggestion coming up all the time is a cargo cult thing (unless it's an unfunny meme); If the game extracts from the zip file (which has checksums) without error and starts up ok, you can be pretty sure that the files are OK.

Plus this error doesn't sound at all like something that would be caused by random file corruption, more like someone is hosting modded incompatible servers and didn't change the UUID. Or like there's a bug somewhere in the networking code.

Go into your maps folder and delete all copies of egyptremix; see if that works. If not I'll upload the copies I have.

Some PCs can't handle large custom maps for some reason.

Yeah, that happened to me 

And I WOULD find another server, but at often times, the only other servers available are full or only have a couple people in them.
