Title: [FAQ/PSA] Plugins as cheats
Post by: Phantom Brave on May 23, 2013, 10:56:07 pm
Some plugins may be considered cheats. Any plugin which does the same as a cheating modification is considered a cheat.

You will never be banned from the Gang Garrison 2 forums for just using cheats ingame. You will never be banned here for asking whether something you have or made is a cheat. In the extremely unlikely case of implementing an anti-cheat system, you will never be permanently globally banned for using something which is incidentally a cheat (this excludes usage of aimbots, triggerbots, etc).

If you have created a plugin which is incidentally a cheat, but don't know how to fix it, send it to me via PM and I will eventually do my best to work around the incidentally cheating aspect. I will never personally distribute any plugins over them shared with me in this way, take advantage of them, etc.

The following plugins happen to be considered cheats, but this list is not exhaustive:
- Auto :x4:
Allows you to be aware of the presence of spies in certain situations where its mechanics would not actually let you know so, such as hitting spies offscreen or in moshes of people where the spy is drawn under others.
- Any aimbots, triggerbots, ghosts/mimicks, etc
- Any plugin which shows the radius for autogun targeting, splash radiuses, enemy ammunition/health/ubercharge/minecount, makes sticky traps countable even when they're stacked, etc
Anything that shows extra gamestate information which the game doesn't already give to you is considered a cheat.
Note: The CTF enhancement plugin is an exception to this, because it shows gamemode state rather than activity state. Yes, whether some showing of certain state is a cheat or not is up to developer/moderator judgment.
- Any plugin which takes advantage of a server exploit to do things which other clients cannot do
This excludes server side plugins. It includes exploits to server mods.

The following plugins are absolutely, positively, not cheats, because they do things which are desirable as features of vanilla GG2:
- Damage Indicator
- Any plugin which changes the specifics of existing vanilla inputs, exempli gratia: giving the game Cave Story controls, adding gamepad controls, or making the sentry build button be a menu again.
- Spriteloaders that work within GG2's sprite size limits, extra animations
- Replacement HUDs

This is a broad topic.

radius for autogun targeting, splash radii
I don't really see how these are cheating, especially not the splash radii.

Would a lag compensation aid that renders a prediction of the screen ping/30 frames ahead be considered a cheat?
Not that I have the motivation or skill to make one...

No questioning it.

"desirable as features of vanilla GG2"

I can't tell what you're asking. Some esoteric specifics of how something would be implemented doesn't help me much.

If you mean input prediction, then that also falls under "desirable as features of vanilla GG2."
