.gml files are already text files
if you're talking about .gmk files, you need a copy of game maker, or you can view and edit them (but not compile) with LateralGM.

All a .gml file is is a renamed .txt file that Game Maker interprets into code. Consider using an editor like Notepad++, it's even got a portable copy so you don't need to install anything.

now to download a ton of plugins, mess around with them and fuck them up
