Den Thomson here, from Shutter Research. Yesterday I got a call from a company called Faucet, trying to get us to do some science. That's what we're doing anyway, so I didn't immediately shoot him over the phone. Said they were making some kind of game, and people were complaining that it was laggy.
Now, I'm no expert in games or internets, but that sounds like a problem for good old-fashioned science. So I talked to the lab guys about it, and today they told me to hand out oxygen masks for all of you, because we have some breathtaking news. Didn't do it of course, you only get one to pass around. Gentlemen, I present you the microportal! Placed in internet centers all over the world, they allow pulling cables between them without having to worry about that pesky speed of light, so there is no more lag. That's right, none at all. In fact, you might even get messages a bit sooner than they were actually sent. In that case, you should wait a bit before reading them. I'd tell you why, but the truth is that we don't even know ourselves. We never found the lab wing where they were supposed to try it.
To prevent any wrong impressions you might get from the title of the update or Den Thomson's rambling, this update still has good old lag. However, we noticed that the key presses are sent to the server ca. 35ms after checking for them, instead of immediately, and we removed this unnecessary delay. That means you will still get lag on faraway servers, or on those that are very full, but no matter what server you are on your lag will always be 35ms less than with any previous version.
Now, brace yourself for the changelog:
- Improved input handling to reduce input delay by ca. 35ms
- Once again replaced the demoman portrait animation (thanks Elkondo)
- Fixed minor desync issues on round end (thanks NAGN)
- Limited the command rate servers will accept from players, to prevent flooding attacks
Download as always on the main page or here (http://www.ganggarrison.com/download.php?file=1).

Interested!

Are you referring to the client lag, or connection lag?
I feel like that's a derp question and I'm gonna assume client lag.
-
It's latency, not framerate loss.
-
So after i updated the game i got this error:
Unexpected error occured when running the game.
What is this?

I experieinced a similar issue with my antivirus while attempting to debug
try another computer, or temporarily disable your antivirus
-
It worked, thank you.

Me too.
Same here.
-
I didn't notice because I was playing in my own server -- but when I changed to a different server, I got a fair amount of lag.
-
I'm not having any lag problems with this new update, good job everyone :c1:
-
no lag today!
wow
-
Not a lot of lag for me.
-
finally i can play laggless! also, lol at the the demoman's smile.
-
No DKotH?
:z7:
-
I was thinking the same thing.
-
awesome
-
Thanks. No more näzi demoman. Appreciated.
-
No DKotH?
:z7:
DKotH is coming with the next major update.
-
no payload :(
-
Payload is extremely - extremely - difficult to implement payload in a 2D platformer.
-
but it should be tried.
after all, almost considerably broken game mode was added to the game, the one where sentries were annoying as fuck if built near the enemy generator.
until of course the patched.
It was tried on a few different accounts :v
-
Wow, you are a master of deduction.
-
This probally ins't scarsam.
-
Well, considering Payload was based of the Escort Mode in TFC, we could just add that. It's well done in Gang Garrison Classic, so why not in vanilla?
This is just a mindless suggestion btw. Feel free to bash it.
-
Ok, not WELL done. It has problems here and there, but that's mostly due to lack of testing, really.
If we bring the mode into the GG2 table, the problems can be easily solved, because quite honestly the problems all involve around the civilian's health, so yeah.
-
I lag so much more on this version
-
Ok, to everyone who thinks the new version lags more: Start up the old one (you can download it from here (http://www.ganggarrison.com/oldversions/Gang%20Garrison%202%20v2.3.2.zip)) and try comparing it to the new one on the same server.
-
On the payload topic - I don't see how it would be hard to implement. The maps would have to balance short and longs lines of sight as well as cover.
-
And maybe little bunkers to hide from spamming snipers/rocketmen/heavies.

Yeah, that's a good idea.
-
Any further discussion on Payload maps should probably go into a Feature Request thread.
-
Guys, you already have enough ways to kill each others.
Payload is for the cool kids.
-
I seem to lag about the same on the new version although i do get more tiny lag spikes on the old one so i guess that this is better
-
I get weird periods of lag on this version where it seems like maybe a couple uploaded packets got missed. Everyone else is running around normally while I'm stuck against a wall. Other people go to me and press :z8: anyone know why this is happening?
-
That's called a problem with your computer.
-
No, it never happened before the update.
-
So it's a coincidence. I know for a fact that the changes in this update can't possibly cause what you described.

This sounds like packet loss on the path from you to the server. Make sure there is no big upload happening on your internet connection. It could also be random congestion at your ISP or in the general path through the 'net.
-
I find it that my networking drivers lock up more often. I get the same thing all the time, I don't even think anything of it.
-
It seems to happen at about the same interval that I lose connection with Counter Strike servers, so I guess it's something with my network.
-
If as in lock up you mean freeze for no reason, then the same thing happens to me.
