Title: Maikng A Walkmask
Post by: ImAFirebug on September 15, 2009, 06:45:02 pm
Okay, so someone on the site recommended that I make the walkmask for a map, and base the bg on it.

I have one question:

Say the walkmasked object is risen/3d instead of just a plank of wood or a platform, should it be completely filled with black, or just left with an outline of the object?

solid stuff needs to be black. Non-solid stuff needs to be white.

Arg.

Let's try it this way:

WSay I want a box on my map somewhere.

Should i make the box for the walkmask completely black, or just around the edges?

(I.E: drawing a box on a piece of paper:  ^Shade it in,      ^ or leave it blank...)

Doesn't matter. But filling it is better.

Read somewhere about clipping issues. Never really seen them myself, but just to be safe, fill as much as you can :P

Kay.

It's safe to say in my opinion, its easier to make a bg first.

Coloring a walkmask is a pain in the ass...

Depends on your view.

If you start with the walkmask, you have a better chance of making a fun map, and it doesn't necessarily means it will be hard to color. In fact, it can be too easy. However, if you don't know what you're aiming to or you end up changing something you had in mind because it wouldn't work as you wanted, after coloring it would end looking out of proportion.

On the other side, if you start with coloring (the method I use), everything can look as you want to, but you can also find out too late that your map will be full of rocketspammers or that some jumps are hard to make.
