Title: Gang Garrison 2.1.1
Post by: MedO on September 12, 2009, 09:53:06 am
Faucet are proud to present:
Gang Garrison 2.1.1

Now what does that mean? Are we slowing down so much that we now need three levels of version numbers? Maybe. But the real idea is to signify that this is a pure bugfix release, without any of the glitzy new features we're planning for v2.2.

Get the new release here (Wuala) (http://www.wuala.com/MedO/Gang%20Garrison/gg2v211.zip), or here (Bittorrent) (http://userpages.uni-koblenz.de/~smaxein/gg2v211.zip.torrent), the download link on the homepage and the update for the gg2updater will be updated soon.

Here's a list of changes from version 2.1 that you might notice:

Bugfixes:

Improvements:

Additionally, there have been many internal improvements to clean up the code and help future development.

So does this have the .gmk so I can start adding EVERYTHING all over again?

Or does it work with 2.1 or something.

Sorry, but it breaks compatibility with old versions. Blame it on GML that it's so hard to merge stuff.

You know, the one if a blu rocketman shoots a rocket and if red pyro reflects it, it turns red

I assume it is to show that the rocket is no longer Blu-team-friendly and instead acts as a rocket fired by the red team.

I assume it is to show that the rocket is no longer Blu-team-friendly and instead acts as a rocket fired by the red team.
But that doesn't make any sense...
I mean people can't tell whether or not bullets are friendly or not, and even if they are from your team, you should dodge them anyway,
But I suppose that this is just a cheap work around that really doesn't effect anything

The reason it doesn't have the same servers is the server hosts aren't using the new version.

I'm currently mourning the loss of infinite superburst and the pyro glitch.

Also, rocket color change doesn't make any sense considering it only affects the person who originally fired it.

  • Added alternative particle effects for flames and rockets that are more suitable for people with weaker hardware. They can be selected from the options menu.

Is the "Alternative (faster)" option better than "Normal"? Or is it for slower users? I'm kinda confused by the quote. ^^^

Gmk's in the source folder.

And something feels different. I dunno, it might be a good thing. I can't really put my finger on it, though.

Might be the way the game deals with lag, cause that seems to have changed from "oh god I can't move" to "You don't seem to be dieing when I shoot you, oh wait you warped to the other side of the crate". In the grand scheme of things I approve of this way though.

It feels smoother as well, but that might just be plecebo from hearing the word update.

But now movement doesn't feel very fluid. It's probably in my head, though.

The only problem I've found so far is that Curly's hair color during her taunt is a slightly different color than her hair any time else.
But that matters so little that its ridiculous.

Open the Wardrobe and enter the portal to Narnia. Meet up with Aslan and defeat the White Witch. Kill him and drench yourself in the blood of their god. You will then be the new king of Narnia.

Oh, and then try checking your GG2 folder.

I've found a very large problem, if it was not intended.
The medic's healing is now linear, and does not scale with the target's remaining health. (Before, if someone was low on HP, they healed faster.)
This makes it pretty much impossible to keep people alive, or even to heal them quickly when they're out of firing range.

This is not intentional, please file a bug report. I'll probably follow this up with a 2.1.2 release to fix the regressions; for the sake of the modders I'll keep the changes minimal though and document exactly what needs to be changed and where.

Tested this just now and confirmed. Before, Medic could keep a Rocketman who was firing down at the ground over and over with a ceiling above from dying (a tactic normally used for building the superburst meter). Now, the Rocketman can suicide with a Medic healing him.

Usually quite a lot of objects, settings and code are changed between releases, and describing all changes in detail would be a ton of extra work. It might be easier for the modders to take note of what they changed and apply those changes to the new version - that would also make it easier to add features from mods like the Community Mod back into the main version.

Quote
Firebug: Moved his center toward his front because the bounding box was off-center. Also fixes an exploit that allowed the firebug to easily get into spawn rooms.
I know it's not a complete fix yet, but it should at least be a lot harder to get in.

The 0 HP thing occurs because health is actually not an integer value, so if you have 0.4 HP left it will show as 0. I could use ceil() instead of round() somewhere in the code to fix this.

For future posters, please don't use this thread for bug reports. Use Launchpad or at least the Bug Reports forum. That way we can more easily keep track of issues and they won't get buried and forgotten.
