I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. execute_strings on fire off the shoulder of Overmars. I watched object-beams glitter in the dark near the room_goto_fix. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears...in...rain. Time to die.

I think the lack of colored names is confusing, that was a huge part of what I liked about lorg and arc chats

Copypasting is pretty cool, and not having the chat buttons be letters is... different.

overall I'm not too fond of this thing, and here's why:

ADVANTAGES:
copypasting is nifty and useful and should definitely be a feature of any chat functionality
the way the words fade away when you're not focused on them is a cool effect
enter and ctrl+enter is a more intuitive, if less convenient, mapping for chat
DISADVANTAGES:
the ability to ctrl+c and ctrl+v without being able to ctrl+z is tragic
the inability to move through or edit text word-by-word using the tab key is tragic
the text just strains my eyes and looks sorta ugly
text doesn't make full use of color in order to differentiate players

so the way that lorgan's chat uses color for names is to color the name red for the red team, blue for the blue team and default for spectators; to me, this is kinda arbitrary because when I'm looking at chat, I don't really care which team a person is on, I care more about the person itself........ as such, I propose this alternate name-coloring system:
first player to join the server is assigned a color, next player is assigned another color, etc., for 8 or 10 or 12 or whoever many appropriate, appealing, differentiable colors, and then the colors cycle; this way, player names in chat are uniquely or almost uniquely tagged with a color

I dunno, it's just a suggestion :heheangel:

already wrote a hash-based name colorizer, check it out:

I sent AJF an update, he should put it up tomorrow.
Also improved performance dramatically but it's still pretty bad. Probably because I added the hash function, and almost everything is done in the draw event instead of when you receive messages, because it was easier that way. Wait for yet another update before using this on public servers.

Don't know how to explain this but, why the hell does the chat not have a 'pop up' that allows you to read chat with out losing controls.
I understand talking will lock you're character down but locking the player out to read the chat seems like a draconic considering the other countless chat systems did it better.
Also you can't type in the chat if you build an autogun the autogun hud will block the chat bar thus making it hard to tell what you're saying.

Also how many chat plugins are there?

I meant to add a command for this, but I forgot. What should I call it? /linestay? /stay? /persist?

nofade prevents lines from fading away. They still disappear. Aside from that, I'm working on an option to retain chat lines, but I need to prevent sending data to people without warchat first.
