 Half-Life 1 re-imagined for the Commodore 64! Initially, this project was going to be a full-fledged simulation of Commodore 64 graphics but I decided the constraints were way too numerous. Instead, only the color pallette, screen resolution and sprite resolution are faithful to the Commodore 64. DEVELOPMENT TEAM>>>>DOWNLOAD LATEST RELEASE (Alpha 0.0.8)<<<<Please give me feedback on the feel of the game and any movement or collision-related things I should change. 99% of the time I will implement them right away and have them in the latest release.

Have you downloaded it? I've already got an accurate 16-color pallete going. Granted, the sprites are made up of much more colors than C64 sprites are (I think C64 sprites are limited to 4 colors), but I eliminated the color constraint so you could more easily tell which sprites are supposed to be which half-life character. Also because I'm lazy.

The C64 has a limit of 4 unique colors per sprite, that's the limitation I was ignoring. Although I'll probably go back and remake them. I'll remake the trolley, it does look much too complex.

A few suggestions:
Bump the window size by at least x2, but keep the pixel resolution (320x200). It would help show off the blocky C64 feel better. Or at least have it as an option on an F-key.
I wouldn't use mouse aiming, because that doesn't fit the general aesthetic. Generated lines from sprite to cursor will clash with the sprite and tile style. I would opt towards a more traditional control style like Contra or Megaman. There's still a lot of different things you can do with weapons and projectiles even with a 4 direction constraint; rapid fire pistol, spread shotgun, aoe rockets/grenades, controllable rocket, etc.
The sprite and HUD don't really have a C64 feel to it. You could try putting the HUD over a black bar along the bottom or top. Most action games did this.
I don't really like the blocky stairs as a main form of elevation. I would avoid using blocky stairs unless that specific part of the map calls for it. Using mostly ramps and platforms should work fine.
Some mechanics that you could try to work in: - edge grabbing and climbing (through use of player states depending on corner collisions) - moving platforms - moving objects by pushing into them

UPDATE ( Alpha 0.0.2) - All sprites now with only 3 colors following traditional c64 graphical limitations!
- Mouse aiming scrapped, aim now based on direction! (as suggested by RebelINS)
- New HUD!
- Cave Story controls!! (left/right/up to move, A/S to switch weapons, X to fire)
- Screen resolution doubled!
- Bullet projectiles instead of drawn lines! Cool new firing types for each weapon!! (Crowbar, Glock 17, SPAS-12 and MP5)
- Blocky stairs scrapped, replaced with traditional c64-style 1x1 ramps!
- Increased leniency of fall damage
- Fixed wonky arm-swaying animations
- Crowbar melee attack
- Updated sounds
- HEV fall damage notification
DOWNLOAD HEREOnce again, please provide input on any mechanic or aesthetic you think needs tweaking. If there's nothing that needs adjusting, I'll begin working on enemy AI (  ) and background tilesets.
