sorry kz, i misunderstood all of your posts. i thought you meant we had to write a paragraph right now about why we wanted to be hired. and i actually have my own laptop, and from the sound of it, it sounds as if your first beta wont come out until summer. my parents wont care then. i also have weekends during the school year. so my application still stands. sorry about that.

Hello sorry if this is a little late but I was wondering if I could be a beta tester for your new mod.

Do you think you've got what it takes to make a good review of whatever you're given? Do you think you're good at sniffing out glitches and bugs?
I've got Takaraivo, myself, Derpduck, Commando and Medik for testers so far. Six will be sufficient, so if you get accepted, you'd be the last one! Unless Vein or Rebel decide to offer their reviews, because those two know more than a thing or two about balance and bug searching, as well as organizing their thoughts in a clearly explained manner. It's doubtful those two have the time for such a thing, I'm just giving a pair of examples of people I trust so much to give effective reviews that I'd let them on as testers even when we've got all 6.

People could leave, new people could join, someone could leak the theme, people might lose interest, you lose the pretty big hype, etc... Why not wait 6 months or so until the initial release for giving out jobs that can only be done then? (no offence meant, just asking)

No offence taken, it's a legit question when you put it like that!
Because we really have no frame of reference for how long it'll take to have a working version of this mod, and it would be best to strike while the iron is hot (when there's hype already being generated about this project) and gather up a few good testers. If we wait that long, the public's interest may wane and it'll get harder and harder to get dedicated testers when they've forgotten there's even a project in the works. It'll be even harder to keep public interest since this project has no thread of its own. Besides, I need testers to give updated sprites to look over for their approval, ask for input about the music we're going to use, and other things that aren't strictly testing based.
And I trust these testers NOT to leak any news about the project, and if they did, I'd drop them like a bad habit.

Well then here is my job application of sorts
I truly believe that I have what it takes to be a helpful beta tester. For one I am excellent at analyzing game play mechanics. I also am completely capable of offering subjections, compromises and balance ideas. No idea that I put forward will not have had forethought, silly ideas are a waste of posts. Finally I am able to find bugs in almost any place given time. I hope this small paragraph proves to you or at least helps prove to you that I would be a good choice for a beta tester.
I thank you for your time.

What an EXCELLENT application! Clear, outlines your abilities and intentions, and demonstrates your willingness to give me at least a paragraph of info. You're hired with flying colors! You're about to have a PM incoming to fill you in on the details.

My computer is about to die.
It's been a long time coming, but parts of the hard drive's disk are unreadable in any way, and the drive itself has been making loud banging and grinding sounds. The drive's so old that it's beginning to simply break apart. I can't afford to replace it.. even now it's making that BANG-whiiiiir-BANG sound, and when that happens, everything freezes until it stops. I can't even defragment or scandisk it anymore. If and when it breaks, I'll be unable to communicate with anyone at all... and I... I don't know what I'll do. The project is on my slave drive, which has never broken on me in all the years I've had it. It's safe there.. but I don't know when I'll be able to get a new computer, or a new drive.....

Well Orpheon, you had the same idea I had at the time, but also at the time, there was not enough space to install windows onto the secondary drive. I fixed that. I worked all night to get this thing running, thinking "what the hell, I can't BREAK it any more than it already is, so I might as well try at least." First I tried to use a restore point, thinking maybe it was a bad install screwing with the disk. No go. Next I tried 4 consecutive scandisks, and each time it found new bad sectors all over the damn thing. At last, I tried wiping the drive and reinstalling.. It worked.. but it began to do the same things shortly after me beginning to reinstall stuff. So.. I worked on a theory. Maybe if I drag everything OFF of the slave harddrive and turn that into my new master, then turn the broken master into the new slave, it would work. I hoped that maybe the data wouldn't be saved on the bad sectors, and that simply using it for data storage would be a light enough task on the poor old thing. It worked. No clanging, no smoke, no whirring, it's all fine now. I gave it two more scandisks using the fresh install on my "new" master drive, and it said that the pagefile.sys was broken. That would explain why it wasn't able to scan itself very well, why the sound was beginning to distort harshly, and why it would screech to a halt and sputter like a beat up Ford Pinto whenever I tried to do anything intensive on it like run Firefox, or update an antivirus. This Frankenstinian experiment lives on to groan another day! Your text wasn't Purple. I fixed that for you.
Whenever I'm being very very serious, I don't bother puting on the purple. Also, at that moment, I didn't have time to do that. I had to rush off with as quick an exit as I could muster before my computer caught fire and exploded.

If you are in dire situations like that, a boot disk is a useful thing to have.
But whatever.
