you can't introduce a red herring like the computer that late in the story, it just causes anger

arguments could be made that not caring severs their final tie to the war, signifying a return to normality, but the role of characters in stories is to explore the fictional world fully, as the actual reader cannot.

Just read the whole thing today. Wasn't bad at all.
I was able to stomach the gay aspect somehow, probably because the characters themselves were so interesting.

And because they didn't constantly beat you over the head with it.
