Near-month bump, I don't five a guck.

So apparently Sonic Adventure 2 is coming to Xbox Live/Market/whatever the fuck it is (and PS3, check the Battle screenshot's HUD). As a fan of the game who has pretty fond memories of it despite the common complains about TOO MUCH SHOOTAN AND HUNTAN and NOT ENOUGH FAST, I'm maaaybe a little hyped... mostly because when SA1 was re-released on consoles, Steam got the SADX version, so any DLC bullshit Sega pulls with the console ports probably won't apply to PC, i.e. PC will get SA2:B.

I mean, yeah, you could just emulate it, but even with the newest builds on a fast PC Dolphin still likes to glitch up at times, and come on, it's likely going to be about ten bucks if SADX is any indication.

On the other hand, the missed opportunity for online battlean and Chao shit is a big downer and possibly a deal breaker. Way to drop the ball there, Sega.

You know how when you are done making a game you send it to the publisher or something so that they can talk to the console owners and determine whether the game will be actually sold and when and with what maturity rating (T, E, etc) and the development team is being paid to do jack shit for a couple of weeks so the producers tell the lead designer to make the coders do something to add to the game's final disc before release date

Kinda like that I think

Eh, I had no problem with the chao system, and I largely enjoyed myself playing it.

It provided some extra gameplay time if you wanted some, provided something to do with all the extra rings you finished levels with, gave medals a tangible purpose besides e-peen by unlocking new store items, and provided motivation for exploring levels that otherwise wouldn't have existed. None of the above benefits are really garbage, even if the system itself was a bit unwieldy.

Besides, unless you were trying to 100% the game, the feature was optional. If you so felt you wanted to, you could also, using glitches, get a chao to level 99 in all stats with about 15 minutes, subverting the grind entirely.

The concept of chao breeding and evolution is great, but it makes its own point to suck way too much time out of the player's hands unnecessarily, and the minigames are poor. That's just my problem with it.

I just watched the Sonic the Hedgehog the Movie (The official anime one that looks like the cutscenes from Sonic CD which was also the base for the SFM animation above)
God, I love the cheesiness of some movies, this is no exception.

Bump!
I bought S4EpII on XBLA a few days ago.

Christ, is that game dumbed down. Once you learn how to do the double-Spindash (which you already do in Sylviana Act 3), you can pretty much start doing it at the beginning of the act and keep on rolling until you reach the end.
I swear to god, the levels almost seem to be designed heavily around that one move, as the springs are conveniently placed to ensure that you do not have to push any buttons except X until you reached the end of the level.
Also, it is OP as fuck. You literally lose no momentum unless you crash into a wall. Exception: If the wall has the hint of a slope, you will scale it. You are even invincible against spikes, for crying out loud!
Also, flying with Tails is broken, but not OP-broken, it is WAY underpowered compared to S3K to a extent that it is actually useless.
And of course, there are the usual offenders of the already mentioned springs that will force you forward, speed boosters, bottomless pits and homing chains in illogical places.
Also, rings and lifes everywhere, which makes accessing the Special stage very easy.
While the Special Stage is a decent modernization of the S2 Special Stage, I still prefer the S2 version by far. There, you had to work for the rings from the first stage onward.
In S4EpII, it is too easy to get all rings you need. In fact, short before the end of one, I hit multiple bombs in a row, losing a good amount of rings, I could already see the exit, but suddently 10-Rings-rings all over the place and I barely made it through.

What I really like, however, are the graphics and the music. Definitely a step-up from EpI, tho the latter doesn't exactly stick with you. Also, the physics got changed for the better and the swimming combo move is a blessing.
And the combination of level tropes is a really clever way to hide the fact that Dimps couldn't think of another "good" level of one trope.

Long story short, Dimps is creating a game that is very self-contradicting:
The level design can mostly push yourself towards the end without you doing anything, yet there are bottomless pits everywhere.
The moves are partially overpowered, but if you end up in a area where you have to use them, you must not screw up (opposite for the flying ability).
The music is pretty decent, but not memorable at all (except for a handful of tunes).
You obtain lives all over the place, yet you get frustrated very easily.

You played all five classic games (Sonic 1-3K and CD) through thousands of times and want to try something new? Play Sonic 1: Megamix. Tons of new levels, new moves, multiple playable characters and it is not even done yet (though a public demo is out since quite some time).

Found this on Sonic Retro:

Sonic Unleashed renderer in Generations

I really like these shadows.

...no, no these Shadows, absense-of-light shadows!

And something else...
