Funny, normally when sega says "they're doing a reboot of Sonic" people are optimistic. This is probably the fifth time they've tried to reinvent the wheel so far, unless I've lost count.
They should stick with the current style for Sonic.

If they want to have Knuckles in there, they could revamp the Unleashed nighttime gameplay (aka Werehog) for him.

And with Tails...either bring back the Mech from Adventure 2 (I personally enjoyed it) or make it a slower version of Sonic's gameplay with much more platforming that is using Tails' flying ability for his advantage and perhaps with some simple switch puzzles thrown in.

All the other characters should, at max, drive the story forward. I don't want to play the game four times with clones of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles in order to get 100%.

Also, SEGA needs to bring back Special Stages for getting the Emeralds.

Except this is a drastic reboot that will plunge Sonic where he shouldn't be; in the deep dark forgotten gaming hallways, where a few lost VG series reside.

Well, you should know better than to panic based on something that was said by TSSZ, of all "news" sources.

Well, while I like Adventure 2 I have to say that it didn't really age well.
Heroes was interesting and could be fun from time to time, but definitely had it's flaws.
So I'd say that it was more like a decline in quality and entertainment followed by a rise rather than a "black hole".

I don't care if TSSZ is a reliable source or not, this better not fucking happen!

No Sonic has gone from a very good path downwards after the Adventure series because they decided that horrible story modes were more important than making a nice game
I mean I liked Sonic Heroes but it was so shitty in so many parts of it

lmfao heroes recycled its badly designed levels for all 4 teams in story mode with few changes not to mention all 4 teams played mostly the same. more than 10 years of bad sonic games can't be fixed with like 2 or so relatively decent games.

No you see, they had ONE really good idea (the team switcheroo thing that lets you have a trio of characters rather than one) except they fucked it so bad it's kind of amazing, actually. The worst part of it was the multiplayer running at like 10 frames per second in horrible horizontal split screen and the boss fight with other teams aka MASH THE ATTACK KEY WITH THE POWER CHARACTER OR PLAY AS AMY

Seaside Hill, that ghost level and BINGO whatever are pretty memorable music and imagery wise though. The rest is shit except the Egg Emperor because if there's one thing I look forward in all sanic games is Eggman's annoying repeated one liners and grunts, I just adore that bad part of those games.

There were parts where it was fun, but parts like, "Grab 200 rings" or "Avoid all the rings" just angered me. I could have enjoyed the game just as much, if not more, without those parts.

yeah playing through sections from a stage you already completed repeatedly with different objectives that aren't exactly very fun either was pretty lame

secret rings was garbage, i'm pretty sure sega just used it to test the wii's capabilities. makes my list of the worst level design i have ever seen. no exaggeration. sonic 2006 is also on there too.

Mario games totally didn't do that already

But yeah the side missions were pretty bad, I remember one about catapulting yourself to hit one lone enemy that was particularly bad because it lasted a few seconds but it took forever to rererereload it since you had to have lightning fast reflexes to grab the gold medal
Oh and the dragon (?) eggs too

Still, going through the main levels was fun for the most part, until they tried to give out gimmicky objectives

Sonic Riders also did those sorts of missions, but at least when you got the best rank of all the missions you got Super Sonic, the best- ohwait Super Sonic was pretty bad in the Riders games.

Well, at the very least, you didn't need to complete some side missions like Secret Rings or Unleashed PS2/Wii in order to progress through the game. Hell, you had to clear a story in the riders game in order to unlock the missions for said story.
