Majora's mask is not oddball, it's amazing.
I think he meant that Majora's Mask wasn't a "typical" Zelda game (Go on a quest, kick Ganon's ass, get some princess booty), but one that experimented a little. (Save the world from the moon, get out of a endless time loop, get some masks, etc.)
I, for one, welcome changes that add to the gameplay. Like the Great Sea in Wind Waker or Wolf Link in TP.
But, at the same time, some franchises do the same and fail horribly because the gameplay is too different from the core gameplay. (Hello, Werehog! Howdy, Mumbo Motors!)
However, this doesn't mean that Unleashed and B--K:Nuts and Bolts are bad. It's just like you are looking for gems and all you find is oil and coal.
Sure, they are nice and all, but not what you were expecting or looking for.
