cp_space for Best Art in Asymmetrical

I will be hosting public and private servers with this map for playtesting. I am active on IRC, so you can meet me there, or PM me.Hey guys.

I'm OneIntervention, pretty new here at the GG2 forums and at GG2 itself. I've always wanted to make a map for any game, be it CS:S, TF2, or basically any game really. But that turned out to be a lot harder than I thought, with the 3D modeling software and texturing and all that.
Then I came across GG2. First of all, great game. And then it hit me: How hard could it be to design and make a map in 8 bit 2D? (The answer turned out to be harder than I thought, but it was a heck of a lot easier than 3D modeling some map.) So I set out to find an idea for a map. A recreation of a TF2 map? No, I wasn't really good with conversions. And then someone in IRC mentioned a space themed map. Inspiration struck, and I immediately got to work. So, a day and a half later, I'm about, meh, a quarter of the way done with my first map ever!

Here is the up-to-date version:
You may need to copypasta it into MS paint or something.

CHANGELOG:
Changed asteroid and debris collisions from 2.5D to a strict outline
Fixed some jumps not jump-able
Removed excessive debris
Other stuff.

BEFORE YOU HATE:
This is a WIP map. As in, not done. It may look bad, but that's because it isn't done yet.
Yes, I started on the background before the walkmask. I didn't know better before I had gotten too far to start over with the walkmask.
Don't ask why I started on the defense side.
This was originally meant to be a 2-stage A/D map, but I dunno how to do two stages. If someone can tell me how, I may look into creating the second stage if I have time.

Suggestions are very much appreciated (unless, of course, it isn't allowed to give suggestions,) but if it isn't you can at least help me with the name, right?

Seems... Pretty confusing. The JPG quality doesn't help either. It might be good with forward spawns, spam blockers and less overall flat terrain. If you could submit an actual PNG image on a decent map uploader (I suggest http://myfrogbag.com/ ), judging the map would be easier.

Oh, and it reminds me of Super Mario Galaxy, too.

Yeah, I want to get forward spawns in this, and I'm trying to get more spam blockers in there.

Post that 'Alternate version' as official link. Or I'll do it for you, actually.
And welcome to the forums, hope you'll stay with us longer.

I can't give any tips, being a judge, but for your first map, it already looks really really good. So good luck with it.

I understand you can't give tips, but thanks for the encouragement!
I've playtested it with some friends and ironed out some kinks, Ill post the updated version.
Next step I want to make a public server with that map a gather some more feedback.

Don't use real life images (your bg).
Or you can tone their color number down using other software. Not only it will look more GG2-ish, but you will also be able to make the BG more easily.

i find this one rather new kind of design, i like it alot.
alltough im not sure if the scales are right.

Yeah, the scales are a bit messed up, I might have to fix that.

For the .locator, it's only that that has to be used.
And for the .png, well, copypasta the link into the address bar.
