Mostly, why would you need an entire subforum dedicated to Minecraft ? I mean, that would be alright in a forum about Mojang in general, but... yeah.
If you're going to randomly make whole forum categories dedicated to whatever subject you currently think about, or worse, what random people think or had thought about someday, there's something wrong with your reasonings.

But it's more "realistic".
Just besides the fact that it doesn't make more sense that a gold plated apple is healthier than a regular apple, if four gold ingots are smelted and arranged around the apple, you'd have to be more dense then lead to bite into SOLID F'IN GOLD!
I assume Jeb uses now Gold nuggets instead of ingots. I mean, either you have some gold that could come in handy more or less permanently or can be used as a status symbol in SMP or a one-use-item that restores some health because you moron didn't keep track of your health bar/never carry some food with you/don't wear any armor whatsoever.
