Wouldn't it answer everyone's dilemmas by allowing the server host to decide whether or not to have chat? A simple addition to Hosting Options would allow the server host to host with or without chat.

In addition, people should have the ability to toggle in their options whether or whether or not to view chat while in a server, which would decide whether the server decides to send the 'bytes' (that supposedly lag) of chat to their client. The default setting would be off, so new players wouldn't know, and people won't have to complain about seeing chat.

tl;dr (highly doubt it): Chat can be on/off with new option

You can already do this in vinmod, except it's not off by default.

tl;i/wdr: vinmod does this

Vanilla text chat? As in chat in vanilla? Didn't I just... bleh

Any reason plugins won't be in vanilla?

Possible legality concerns even thought we got the green light from a single person at yoyogames

tl;tdu: Big brother makes rules about rules and people whose stuff we use makes rules about the stuff we use and we need to know that big brother is okay with us doing plugins
