What I got out of that was "let's get rid of the more convenient option because people take it for granted"

And what I got out of all of this was, "2dshooters are serious fucking business. More important than life itself!"

The point is that competitive gg2 or whatever is NOT going to die off like how most people think it will without implemented chat.

Internet brower AND gg2 open at the same time, causing even more lag ? Sure, I'm up for it.

So Valve just recently came out with a super reliable messenger called Steam, I hear it's going to have a sequel to Team Fortress and Half Life on it.

People sometime use in-browser clients, like Mibbit. Of course if you're using mIRC or something of quality it's not a problem. Except if like me you close explorer.exe to have less lag.

irc in one window, gang garrison in other window. it's not that hard. we had no problems with any prior tournament or clan match with this setup; never really had any problems with people being able to switch back and forth. there's really no need to actually chat during a game, unless it's the organizer/host telling you what to do. in that case, you keep the irc window open. I think people are just spoiled and take vinmod chat for granted because it's convenient, even though there are others way you can communicate effectively. i'm saying this out of experience, and not based on assumptions of what "competitive/tourney/pug/elite" gg2 should be. This is basically what I said like 6 pages ago but better articulated so yeah I agree with it. So Valve just recently came out with a super reliable messenger called Steam, I hear it's going to have a sequel to Team Fortress and Half Life on it.
I know a lot of people who get shittons of lag from Steam. mIRC or something would be much better.
