Why not do 4 teams total? I'm sure you have 4 people willing to be and capable of being leaders. That way you can hold like 7v7s which I think are plenty fun anyway and still have a good number of subs.
And yes I realize getting 14 people together is next to impossible but you could always just play with less if you're forced to.

If I put you and I in, we'd still need another person, I'd think. And yes, getting 14 people together is impossible, as summer tourney (6v6) frequently had teams halfway filled with subs. |

Even the All-Star Exhibition, which you think would contain players that would be more punctual/responsible, was supposed to be 5v5 and almost never ended up that way. I think east coast(maybe Korea? We never played them) was the only team to consistently have 5 players available.
So yeah, 7v7 would be a disaster lol
