About the latter, the maps have to be small due to Game Maker's terrible optimization.
About the former, there's not a whole lot I can do about that. Either wait until AI comes out (in which case, they'll end shortly after you do if they're not already finished), or play with more advanced players (nobody because FLS doesn't really have a community yet).

What I'm basically asking is is there any point in working on FLS?

You made a pretty deep wound into the project, as in your far into FLS not sure if you should quit now. Anyways I would care because I put a lot into FLS. I don't really know, if you think of a fun idea then you could bring the project back to life, or end it like every clan in the clan section if you find another idea for a game I guess I could try to put everything into it like I did with FLS. It is not my decision though, its your decision since your the soul founder of the game.

Okay you guys, give me some ideas on how to make the game more fun. Besides a timer, which I'm already adding.
The timer would be configurable and toggleable by the server host. It would be able to last from only 10 seconds (for super quick games, ones that could last only about 10 minutes), to 2.5 minutes. Here's a "chart" for those of you like Drone who complain about average game lengths (even though most strategy game matches last long anyway). The "Game length" is measured at 35 days, the average span of a match in FLS.
Timer length---Maximum Game length 10 seconds---11.6 minutes 15 seconds---17.5 minutes 30 seconds---35 minutes 45 seconds---52.5 minutes 51 seconds---1 hour (I only showed this rather out-of-place number because this is the average length of a phase, meaning the average length of a day is 1 minute and 42 seconds) 1 minute---70 minutes 2 minutes---140 minutes (lol 2 hours, who'd need that?) 2.5 minutes---175 minutes (holy fuck 3 hours)
Of course, if all players end their phases before the timer runs out, the game will move on, which is why I made sure to specify that those would be the MAXIMUM possible lengths of the game.
