Definitely something I was going for with the Winter GGC Tourney, with randomized player selection and a "player roulette" trade system.
Some points:
1) This game is pretty much built for 5v5 or 4v4. So stick with those numbers plus one spot for recorder/commentator.
actually it works best with 6 vs 6 on most maps imo. 4 vs 4 has far too many back caps, 5 vs 5 also feels kind of lonely on some maps sometimes :I but organized 6vs6 is retarded, hell even 4vs4 has a lot of people not showing up

Randomizes teams, checks to see if both teams have a medic or if they both don't, and if one does and one doesn't it changes someone so both teams either both have a medic or both don't have a medic? If so then it's ultimately choosing between both teams having a medic and both teams not having a medic, and I'm saying it should always assign a medic to each team.

The main problem would be the possibilities of team stacks in favor of the opposition.
Like Techno said, you can easily get the worst team imaginable and the opposition can get the ideal highlander setup. That's what makes it fun though, not knowing what class you'll be playing.

That is the whole point of all of this. Good times, nobody is playing to stomp the opposition, everyone is playing for the fun of it. Sure, winning is part of it, but having fun is the key.

http://www.random.org/sequences/Sequence generator from integers 1 to 10 inclusive. Pick the first 5 (or 6 if it's 6v6s); roll again if there is no 6 on the team if you want to ensure that there is a healer on both teams. You can either assign the players slots, then roll, or roll then randomly assign each class to the team members.

class limits one per team and one randomized class select can cause issues with actually randomizing a class and picking one that's already chosen
unless you automatically change the class through the mod so that everyone is a random class and you ignore them attempting to change/randomize their class.

I also just checked the advanced options on that sequence generator. If there are any trust issues with lying about the randomness of it, you can set it to use pregenerated sequences from certain dates. This means that multiple people from different locations can confirm the exact sequence of numbers that was generated.  And if you want to take it a step farther to keep it clean, you can randomly generate a date with the integer randomizer, so teams can't prescreen what classes they will receive.
