So my main rig is currently spitting at me about a thousand bios related errors and I don't have nearly enough patience to attempt to fix everything.
Can one reinstall Win7 over top of itself and not lose anything? I know you can with XP, but I don't trust 7 as far as I can throw it.

have you tried resetting the BIOS? That's what orpheon reccomended for me when I was having bios issues, and it worked. Try unplugging your computer from the wall for a couple seconds, that should reset it. Or you may have to open the case and short circut the BIOS reset thing(it is madee for this) on your motherboard

Yes, I tried the normal methods, cold resetting it, fucking with the jumper, etc.
The only way I've been able to make it past the startup bios error screen is booting off my install disc, and as expected the Repair option does bumfuck nothing. I managed to get to a command prompt, though, and discovered that somehow my C:\ and D:\ drives have switched letters.
Which makes absolutely zero sense.

This afternoon. It was working fine this morning, in fact, just before I headed off to class (where I discovered that I'm somehow missing an entire three ring binder that I never even took out of my bag). Get home, attempt to turn on computer to check for UPDOOTs and play some vidya gaems, suddenly Windows goes into uglymode and throws up in my face.
I'm no superstitious man, but if I was, I'd swear there was some force against me here.

No, because skype needs to add registry entries which all computer-literate libraries block

Through a process of drive letter switching and google fu, at least I've managed to get Windows to realize that yes, it is installed and yes, that disk can attempt to repair it. Now it's just a matter of waiting...
and waiting...
and waiting.
God damn it I fucking hate computers.
