So I remember watching Cowboy Bebop when I was younger at someone's house, and thinking it was cool because of all the guns and fighting. Since then, my irl friends kept telling me that it's the equivalent of mana from heaven. I rewatched the series slowly over the last two weeks and started catchin the subtle symbols and themes.
It often deals with the idea of a waking dream, from characters who have suffered immensely and wish to "wake up" from their lives. The primary antagonist, instead of being a recurring villain that comes in every episode to taunt the main ensemble, is instead more of a concept than a threat, a driving force that ties together the otherwise mostly non-linear story. Characters develop gradually, with entire episodes dedicated to backstory, rather than being filled in for the viewer on a need-to-know basis.
And it has some sweet slide guitar and harmonica.
I heard it was an amazing anime, though I didn't really have the time and patience to watch such a large series before. I might pick it up after Inuyasha.

I grew up watching sailor moon too but I hardly remember any of it. Oh and I grew up watching card captors, that show was the shit.
