Good choices, I would still recommend Lucky Star. If you start to get bored you can just watch the other. Also for anybody who wants to watch a really sad anime:

currently watching: psg: awesome shinryaku ika musume (squid girl):Arakawa under the bridge 2: it's pretty good imo. it has some of the most hilarious jokes ever, but tends to get boring from time to time. hyakka ryoran: tits ore no imouto (or some shit like that): so kawaii^_^, also incest majutsu no index: holy shit, why did i never watch this before? it's like pew pew pew RAAAAAAAAWR gib moar |

Personally, I wouldn't recommend Haruhi or Lucky Star to somebody new to anime, as a lot of the humour in both shows is aimed at people who already watch anime.
If you'd like something more oldschool, Ranma 1/2 is hilarious, and is what got me into anime. It also actually has a good dub, which was incredibly rare back then.
