So I need a new anime to watch. I'm just about to finish lucky star and was looking for a good scary anime. Something like Higurashi or Umineko where the characters are trapped in an area and there is a murderer or something (heh kinda sounds like Agatha Christie's novels).

More mystery than horror or whatever but I've heard Paranoia Agent was quite good and suspenseful with some scary moments.

I can second the recommendation for Paranoia Agent; it's one of my favourite series. Psychological horror and nonlinear storytelling is a combination I absolutely love.

I'll start you off with a great one. I've been told to have great taste in anime so I think my opinions are similar to the general public (though some are not). If you look at the SOS clan thread I wrote like an essay on death note and Umineko heh.

Everything is not really specific enough. And you can't just clump together all anime in just an "anime" category. Well you can but it's a very primitive clump together. There are numerous art styles, stories, you name it. You're basically saying the equivalent of something like "I hate all books" or "I hate all Cartoons".  |

Kinda, I mean I watched the Pokémon animes and maybe a dozen or so episodes of Bleach, but that's it. Quick question though, for your first anime would you like Whimsical and funny, Horror and Psychological, Mysterious, Action, or tragedy.
Whimsical and funny, that's why I chose Pantie & Stocking after reading the Wikipedia article. I was also thinking about Lucky Star, but I have no idea what it's about. |

Hmmm honestly I think The Meloncholy of Haruhi Suzumiya was much funnier than Lucky Star. But Lucky Star is also a good favorite of mine. Lucky star is more of a "talk about shit that is true and be random and funny". While Haruhi is more "LMAO, What in the name of god ahaha". Not really crazy random but just the way these people act are very straightforward. Especially how Haruhi treats Mikuru. (Also if you watch the "first episode (it's dubbed episode 0), it's basically a home-made movie that they made. It's funny as hell).

imo
It doesn't look that great while looking at the intro. It's a very "Cartoony anime", not really anime but rather an American cartoon with Japanese audio. I honestly wouldn't even consider this anime.
