I don't care so much about the 3d effect but I do want to try that new Paper Mario.

So I'm almost done with Master Quest. I'm in Ganon's Castle, and I have to say...

A lot of the puzzles towards the end of Master Quest are just...well, I'll get to it.

I do have to say it's a lot more challenging combat-wise. Tons of mini-boss enemies as normal enemies, you take double damage, that kind of stuff. It's also very interesting how they managed to completely rework the puzzles in the maps without changing the maps themselves. Some rooms even feel like brand new dungeons. The main problem is that some dungeons become, believe it or not, easier once you understand some of the "themes" a lot of the dungeons have.

There is actually a room in the Shadow Dungeon that I never even visited and I literally have no reason to. According to the map there's no treasure, all other rooms were explored so there's no key in there, and I got all the Gold Skultulas. So I can be very sure of myself when I say there's no point to the room at all other than to just side-track you.

As for the puzzles, a lot of the solutions in Master Quest is "shoot random stuff". In Jabu's Belly there are cows in the walls for no reason, and if you shoot them with a slingshot you "solve" some puzzles. In the Water Temple if you hit the portraits it activates switches. There's no real thought involved. If you're EVER stuck in a room the best thing to do is just ask yourself "did I hit every random thing in here?".

But for the actual puzzles...they're what I like to call "desperation puzzles". Because they're used when the designers are desperate for a puzzle to use in a room and the only way to solve it is when you're desperate and just doing random things hoping that it somehow does something. The worst example is in the Spirit Temple, where you need to play the Song of Time to get a box to put down on a switch. But the thing is you don't know if the box is there at first, so you have to just randomly play the song over and over multiple times because that's literally the solution. But then again, you'll never know that unless you start playing the song because you have no clue what you're supposed to be doing.

So yeah. The main problem with Master Quest, even though it is a fun challenge if you've "mastered" the original game, is that the puzzles aren't...puzzles. Puzzles assume you have a goal in mind, like "I got to get this box so I can hold this switch down" or "I got to get this item to hit this thing here." Master Quest's puzzles just leave you there saying "I don't understand what is supposed to happen here." If you replay Master Quest and know the solutions to all the puzzles, you actually might be able to beat it faster than the base game. Weird huh?

So many people say that. Well I believe this to be true for all puzzle games but master quest gave most of their places the nerf bat (E.G Water temple,Spirit Temple) So yeah that could be true. Never really redid it after I beat it once, just put it to gather dust because I wouldn't find myself playing it again unless I want to mess around in areas or just snipe with bow late at night.
I just don't believe that it would be shorter if you knew how to solve all the maps.

As long as I'll eventually get MGS3D, I'll be happy.

Why is Nintendo releasing all these reboots/sequels for classic franchises on 3DS, they'd be much better suited on Wii. Case in point: Legend of Zelda: OoT remake, Super Mario 3DS, Paper Mario, Super Smash Bros.,  Star Fox, etc.
