Hey, it's better than in Mario Kart Wii, where getting hit by a Blue Shell put you out of commission for nearly eight seconds while your character flails about a good three seconds after being blown up. The amount of Blue Shells in 7 is nearly halved from Wii.

I ended up getting 2nd and It only gave me 2 stars even though I was first by miles in the previous races. HURRDURR BACK TO MUSHROOM 100CC FOR 3 STARS. So, which of you tools wants to race me later? |

The motorcycles in the wii version are extremely overpowered. Let's forget for a minute that the Hawaiian kong can pretty much destroy everyone else, speed wise, but the karts have this SINGLE extra property of being able to do stronger mini turbos, which is pretty much useless because you can always use your wheelie powers and get a similar effect with much less skill involved.
The items are also a total mess, I can understand that the people in the lower rankings should gain the best ones, but while it's sort of fair in an 8 players race, in a 12 players one you end up getting wrecked by the last three people, regardless of how good you are at dodging. It's a terribly unbalanced system that rewards those who can't play for shit. I'm ok with a good amount of luck factor in my games, but MK wii is basically built on that.
