my favorite thing to do is upsmash to launch a mortar, then grab the other player and do an upthrow, making them hit it mid throw.
i don't know why, it's just so satisfying, even if it does less damage then doing the full throw and then hitting it

It's possible to fully charge a mortar, shoot another mortar, and hit a player in the air simultainously.

A lot of Nintendo's franchises could be much more popular if they took the spin-offs that they slapped Mario's face on and gave it to their franchises that fit the genre. Like give F-Zero items and online play like Mario Kart, something like that.

Nintendo's problem recently has also been refusal to improve their online structure and modernize. One of the reasons they have issues attracting new players is that there is no high quality, stable online experience. If you need an example of how badly they need to shape up, just examine the online for Smash Bros. It's laggy, has issues connecting matches, once connected to matches will often disconnects in match, has poorly maintained servers, and is generally a negative experience, and this is on the arguably best game for multiplayer the console offers. Unless they figure this out relatively soon, we could see them pull a sega, no longer being able to compete in the console industry, only outputting repeated cash-ins to stay afloat

Also patches Don't forget about patches The Wii's a disappointment in general, honestly.
Not really As in it's choke full of horrible shovelware and motion controls are gimmicky and poorly used by developers, but it had its fair share of games that wouldn't have worked as well on other consoles at the time Stuff like No More Heroes, de Blob or Red Steel 2, although that's pretty much it

How about when Xbox Magazine gave that one game, Drake99 or whatever it was called, a perfect 10 despite being unenjoyable at best if it was on a Nintendo 64.

I don't have any access to Microsoft or Sony's consoles unfortunately, so I can only really harass critics of Nintendo consoles.

I don't know about the american version but the italian one is pretty unbiased for every game that doesn't have "Nintendo" printed on it, then they start losing it and the 9.5 disease spreads about
Seriously the lowest score they ever gave to one of them was a 6 for some Mario Pinball nonsense game for the GBA, which actually had no redeeming quality whatsoever

The american Nintendo Power doesn't even review "non-games" like Brain Age or Wii Music.
However, I do remember one of the Nintendo Power guys recommending Wii Music for young children, which is about the only audience that could enjoy it.
