It's a valid reason.
You can't fix a broken game by twiddling with the options if its core game mechanics are broken. Turning off items in brawl doesn't really make a difference, because the physics/hitstun mechanics themselves are imbalanced. Melee functioned well without items, because its mechanics were sound.
It wouldn't matter how fair the item randomization/spawning priority worked, if the actual fighting is bad. Balanced, complex fighters have long lifetime, irregardless of how balanced the items are. Melee lasted for 7+ years arguably, other traditional fighters like Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo are still relevant over a decade later, CvS2 lasted a long time, MvC2 lasted a long time, also Guilty Gear. Competitive Brawl scene is laughable compared to these examples, and the main reason is its fucked up mechanics.
That's all.

I like pokeballs and other unbalanced items. It would be stupid to not to allow an option to use them.

bumper
ok, I'll play. how is launching someone off the left of the screen so far they die via the bumper different than NOW I'LL SHOW YOU AAAAA and launching them off the top Are you comparing the bumper to Super Sonic? Alright. With Sonic, you're invincible, you move extremely fast all across the screen, one touch is a guaranteed kill at above 50%, and you can slam into multiple opponents and not just one. Bumpers are just simple area restriction tools. You touch it, you get bounced back a bit, and it barely does any damage. It's just there for the player to use to his advantage, not seal a guaranteed win. ok, that was my weak one, but really, sometimes a well placed bumper is a guaranteed ko, then again it has to be well placed which takes skill so eh, i can't argue it. I think almost all final smashes would have been better if they didn't provide invulnerability for you as well as death for your enemies, maybe a few could suppress launching for you but only for a very few cases, honestly I think that would have made them at least tolerable to the community
oic but think about it; rob's final smash/wario-man being ko-able, much less of a guaranteed win and more of an attack powerup; players using pk nubstorm having to worry about positioning and timing to avoid getting scozzloads of damage sealing their fate when they finish (probably with a well-timed smash/lightning kick to seal the deal); and why the hell shouldn't super sonic's percentage go up at fixed rate, since he doesn't have rings, if he gets to be an invulnerable death weapon at least a little penalty for doing it would be a consolation prize

Technically yes, since the Wii has online, standby online, and memory storage.
Logically no, because Nintendo.

wii u will be running on the nintendo network, which will be similar to xbl and psn. I'd imagine patches in the future smash are not out of the question.

irregardless Not a word lopl lol Anyways are there any changes any of you would like to see in the Oldcomer characters? Such as the longer range Peach Bomber in Brawl, Mario's FLUDD, less clony Ganondorf, etc.

is it just me or is link's downair ridiculously cheap in terms of priority and hitbox
i ask because every day in 1st period we play smash bros, and the person who brings in the wii plays as link. since he's the only copetent player it's usually just us in the end.
but yeah i've died to way too many dairs for me to still be falling for it

Link has a lot of sustained attacks with wide hitboxes. Generally I find it best to wait until he misses and has to go through his end lag animations, since that's when he's most vulnerable. Dair is a perfect example.

I played a lot of G&W and getting hit by that Dair at around 80% is just awful. Especially on stages like Battlefield where Link has platforms to work with.

Game and Watch's down air is basically the move made for dodging. This is a loud and noticeable delay and it moves to quickly that you can be completely off while air dodging and still avoid it.

i think he meant playing as game and watch against link and getting hit by link's downair. falco's also a light character like g&w so dair kills a lot sooner than it should.

I use it to fall faster and be able to do damage if I'm somewhat lucky. But even if it is dodged, you can throw out a D Smash or Fsmash and nail the person right as their dodge invincibility frames wear off anyway. Unless it'd DDD or MK, then it's different.
