If you guys want my honest opinion, the only characters that require actual skill as opposed to c-stick spazzing are Marth and, surprisingly, Kirby.
I've also been pondering on the words of a few people who dislike the smash bros series and prefer more old-hat fighters, what if a new smash bros made it so you have to chain combo like in normal fighters to actually deal damage with little to no knockback, yet you have to use melee like strategies (fuck brawl) to get people to fly high in the sky?
even though i played competitive smash bros for a number of years (melee era), I don't consider smash a true fighting game. Fighting games shouldn't need to limit the existing options just to make it competitive; that's a sure sign that the game was not made with that audience in mind. I enjoy both realms of the gameplay (1v1 no items, and 4 player fun matches), but I think the competitive scene tries too hard to adjust things to justify having a competitive scene in the first place (especially the brawl community). I think Smash Bros should remain the same as it has always been, and if they want a proper fighting game, they should outsource it to ArcSys (BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, HnK) or give Konami a shot (TMNT Tournament Fighters). But we all know that will never happen.

Played with a friend and his friends who apparently are in competitive Super Smash Brothers a while back.
Yeah, sure.
Anyways, I was playing as Snake, one was Meta Knight and the other was Marth. My friend was Peach. I had items on and set to medium, and I turn the annoying items (homerun bats, fan, bumper, annoying fireball thingy, golden hammer, big healing items) off.
One of them got a Hammer and got knocked off of a ledge. They didn't know how to drop the Hammer manually. They died.
The other got a Cracker Launcher and didn't know how to aim up or down with it. Then they tried edge hogging me while wielding it. They died.
They then immediately left the room and removed me from their friend roster.

Well I meant the overall mechanics.
And tripping is fine, what are you talking about?
Wait, DeDeDe? What's wrong with him?

Oh, the overall mechanics? I agree, they're fine. The random pratfalls were just unnecessary and a bad idea; dedede as a character is fine, it's just the chain grabs kind of broke him. Plus there's a noticeable character disparity in general, nevermind ganondorf or meta. My idea of a perfect Brawl is this.

Oh god I remember every "competitive" player who told me they were a dedede main. They basically did nothing but chaingrab like a nagger.
I don't like random tripping, tbh. It's just plain annoying.

I'm okay with tripping, I haven't had many bad instances of tripping. The only slightly inconvenience me, and it's a neat little luck-based mechanic.

Also I usually main Olimar, who's so floaty he can escape chain grabs pretty easily.
Olimar is my best guy. Especially how nobody knows how to really deal with him, besides his recovery. Especially how Pikmin can block projectiles and homing attacks. It's especially funny when people target my Pikmin like I can't just press B for more.

I don't think tripping is as obnoxious as pepole say it is, but I don't see why it shouldn't be optional.

I wanted to make a point to get better at him, but I've found I usually enjoy him for one or two matches before wanting to switch off to somebody else. The only two characters that don't seem to be that way so far for me are Yoshi and Marth.

Characters I use: King Dedede, Lucas, Olimar, Pit (one of my best), Snake, Luigi (another one of my best), and Toon Link (another one of my best). I like Pit, Luigi, and Toon Link's agility, and they also have /some/ power to back that up, so they're pretty well rounded.

Lemme live the dream reberu All I wish for is for a bit more balance between projectiles and point blank fights (fucking Pit) and some more skill required in comboing people, which is pretty much the funniest part about a fighter.
