Genres can be as loose or specific as you want them to be. Most of Ayreon is progressive or melodic metal with elements of other genres (and that's a perfectly accurate description), but there are some things that are plain jazz or classical.

Those terms are easily the worst. The music that the general public describes as "classical" is mostly not even classical. There are a plethora of different styles, such as Baroque or Romantic. The term classical only describes a set period. The same goes for Jazz. A funk song sounds nothing like a swing song, or a slow blues. They're all so different, and genres show a lack of knowledge and general ignorance in the area. |
