The two biggest timesinks during the tournament was people showing up late and people not decided on
scratched maps.
For the former, there's nothing we can really do but thankfully we did not have to disqualify any teams. we did have to use the same player for different teams, which is not really what we want, so we strongly advise you to
come early, have subs determined well in advance, and be prepared for any missing teammates. For the latter, perhaps it's our fault for not being more clear with this (despite Snare's post), so let me reiterate what a scratched map IS.
Alright let me explain this in more detail.
You play 3 maps, each map is a game. If you win the game you get +2, tie +1, lose +0. This makes it so you can get a maximum of +6 every match.
New Map List Rule
Both teams can scratch out a map. For example, Team 10 scratches out zvector, and Team HTBA scratches out waterway. If either of those maps come up in the rotation, you skip that map. I'll repeat it over and over to you in the IRC before your matches.
I suggest you talk to your team before your match to discuss what map you're scratching out.
I'll add this to the OP in a second.
Edit: This rule was added last second to reduce the randomness of just playing 3 random maps during your match. Now you play 3 random maps, but not the one you hate the most.
The rotation used for all tournament servers are:
ctf_wizardctf_truefort
ctf_wizardctf_conflict
ctf_wizardctf_2dfort
ctf_wizardctf_waterway
ctf_wizardctf_zvectorv2
note: Every ctf_wizard is a 10 minute break, or less if both teams are fully prepared. You are allowed to scratch
one of the following:
ctf_truefort
ctf_conflict
ctf_2dfort
ctf_waterway
ctf_zvectorv2
If your team scratches off truefort, and the other team scratches off 2dfort, then the result would be this:
ctf_truefortctf_conflict
ctf_2dfortctf_waterway
ctf_zvectorv2
If either map comes up in the rotation, it is treated as ctf_wizard and will not be counted as one of the three matches to be played.Essentially, this is a way for you to get rid of maps you do not want and alternatively get rid of randomness in what map you do play. Since we play whatever official map comes up and if there are no scratched maps, if it starts at truefort the matches will end at 2dfort, meaning you will not get an opportunity to play waterway or zvector even if you are better on those maps then the first 3.
SCRATCHING MAPS IS OPTIONAL AND VOLUNTARY. You do NOT need to scratch a map, but the option is there and can strengthen any strategy your team has ready. FROM NOW ON, me and Snare cannot and will not waste any time on deciding scratched maps on the fly, so if you do not have a choice ready immediately, we will assume you have elected not to scratch a map.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE DETERMINED YOUR SCRATCHED MAP WITH YOUR TEAM WELL BEFORE YOUR MATCHES.note: in the case that both teams scratch the same map, the official map rotation will contain 4 maps.
