Whoa, that... is awesome.
By the way, I think this project is pretty much over. It was fun, but I hit a deadend at the same time I got a real, legit job, so...
On a perfectly related note:

times eight.
So this means the project is left for me to finish? Spr Srs Man for the NES and FamiCom (possibly the Disk System peripheral?)?
You would do that? Because that's amazing.
But yeah, I'm not coming back to the project.
Let me see if I can remember what the plot was... Hmm...
Manfred C. Ryus is an average guy. He's happy, too. He loves his job, his family, his kids, and his life. However, when a mysterious "serious bomb" hits his city, he is one of the few survivors left alive. However, the bomb has changed him. He no longer has his cheery demeanor; he is physically unable to be optimistic.
Did I mention he was a scientist? He was. He searches for a cure for the "serious smog" (a remnant of the bomb) that causes so much unhappiness. He finds the cure, but... he wakes up one morning, and it has suddenly disappeared!
The only clue he has is a note signed "Super Unsrs Man". He embarks on a long chase, every now and then catching a glimpse of his elusive foe.
Anyhow, the plot twist, inspired/stolen (inspolen?) by secret Garden, Srs man IS Unsrs man. Srs has become bipolar, and does not know it. Unsrs man, however, realizes that he and Srs man are one and the same. He does not tell Srs, though, because he enjoys his life because he is able to find humor in all things. However, he steals the briefcase (from himself? Yes.) with the antidote in it, and hides it. When Unsrs is in control of Srs' body, he creates new enemies for Srs to fight (in the hopes of him becoming pessimistic and leaving), while planting new decoy briefcases.
I actually decided not to use the portals.
Instead of a health bar, you would have a "Malignance" bar, starting at average (full) and ending at "fuck it" (empty). Every time you take a hit, the bar goes down. At empty, Srs gives up and goes home (possibly commiting suicide? that's kinda bleak though).
On winning, all this shit is revealed through a note in the briefcase + montage. Oh yeah, a montage, baby! Then, Srs becomes a normal, functional human being again, and though he is horrified at the sudden realization (once ignored while he was trying to find a cure) that his family is dead, he is full of optimism, and looks forward to a better future.
Epilogue: he mass-produces the cure, becomes famous, and it turns out that his family had actually taken shelter before the bombing and had thought him dead. Reunited at last!
Ending scene: Srs going out for icecream. On the way out the door, after the kids leave the house, his face flashes the unsrsman look, as he dons Unsrs man's purple fedora and fades to black on that still-frame.
