i'm not digging the skill points/leveling idea, because you want to feel useful from the get go. having to level up just to get better stuff wouldn't be as fun.

Anyways, so two things: 1) Trip-wires vary in stats. The lowest tier costs the least, and has the smallest range. there are others which get progressively better and more expensive. The better ones are also less visible. Next, the spies health. i'm thinking only 5-ish because the spies are rather fragile in the comics (and yes damage will be scaled to compensate)

Nonono, that wasn't about leveling up, that was about choosing a limited number of default equipement from a limited number of points. The skill tree is supposed to unlock progressively in one go when setting up your loadout.  z4

Anyway. I would really, really gladly help with sprites.

thought I haven't read Spy vs. Spy :<

The problem with that approach is that people will find optimal builds, like with perks in call of duty (although I've never played these games personally). Then you have to balance the specific skills/traps instead of the classes themselves. It would lead to more interesting permutations, but would make it a lot harder to balance. I think having each class have a unique outline would make the overall design tighter.

Part of the reason I'm changing the map code is not to add new entities, but to change the way maps work. due to the nature of the traps, hand drawn maps wouldn't work. So, instead they'll be tile based.

Some of the traps aren't just going to be set and forget are they? Like maybe with the tripwire/laser ones, you attach the main trap component to a surface by throwing it, which can be pointing in any direction. Then after that, you set the first tripwire end piece. It would show a radius around that first end piece, which indicates where you can put the other end piece. If an enemy intersects the line, it activates the trap.

With that in place, you could give a cigarette item to one of the classes, so they can use the smoke to find where the lasers are.

Well, I was just going to have a simple tripwire tile that you could place. But yeah, there'll be ways to detect hidden traps (tripwires and others alike)

So that would be harder to do as a mod.
I mean, less true to GG2. But as long as you can art the maps...

I could do this myself very easily. Like, I pretty much have Marine and Ghost already coded.

If there are Hydralisks and/or Roaches, I'd use it everyday.  z6
